A BLACK AND WHITE WEDDING    I’ve only been married once; here'ss the pathetic and sorry tale of my black and white wedding. I agreed to get married within two weeks of meeting and I married within six months of meeting my wife-to-be. I do like to spend time engaging in patient courtship! When I told my parents of my plans to get married, they didn't even know I had a girlfriend never mind having met her. In my parents’ lounge and just a few days before Christmas Day, I announced that I was getting married. My Dad thought I was joking and just carried on reading his Farmer’s Weekly magazine. My Mum looked at me. I looked back and said it was true. She then got up to crack open a bottle of champagne; we all drank champagne pretending to celebrate while my shocked parents were no doubt contemplating the madness of it all. Though not religious, I stupidly agreed to marry in a church. The wedding was a very pretentious affair - a large black-and-white wedding; it was the 1980s after all! Every wedding guest dressed in black and white, except one person; and everything was black-and-white at the wedding and reception, as far as possible. At the church, the bride came up the aisle with my friend playing Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart on the organ. After getting wed, we walked down the aisle to Lou Reed’s Perfect Day song. I wanted Lou Reed’s Walk On the Wild Side but that was vetoed by my bride-to-be’s mother after she heard the lyrics of the song. At the reception, everything was decked out in black and white. Champagne and white wine flowed - we ordered many bottles of the 'classy' Black Tower white wine. The food consisted of mushroom soup, chicken in a white sauce served with mashed potato and aubergine, the vegetable nearest to black in colour, and Black Forest gateau with cream. There were two best men. I love wedding speeches! There was a free bar. The wedding reception soon became a drunken affair. By the end of the evening, I was too drunk to fuck despite offers of help! My marriage was only consummated the next day; little did I know then that I did have a little window of opportunity after the wedding to call the marriage off! The first night of our honeymoon was spent in a luxury hotel in London. Then we drove up to Scotland to spend two weeks in Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Isle of Skye. I had to take some work with me on honeymoon, which very understandably didn’t go down very well with my wife. Also, I stupidly agreed to stay a week in an isolated missionaries’ cottage with no television. I missed many football games of the 1986 World Cup, including England’s game against Argentina when England lost to Maradona’s 'hand of god' goal. Divorced after four-plus years, and not counting the two years separation, my marriage still stands as one of my longest relationships I’ve had with a woman! Have you been married? I had a great time at my wedding, not least because geese weren't invited, but I didn’t have a great time in my marriage. If only we could wed without getting married!    |

been there.. 1 time.. 32 yrs.. she divorced me.. no sex for the last ten yrs... yeah remember the wedding, small , tiny church in the woods.. reception in the basement.. every aunt and both moms brought food.. open bar was just beer.. and whiskey ... she was 18 I was 20... needed papers to get married.. day before wedding, just got the apartment.. set up the bed.. the days after the wedding was moving in.. went camping in a state park that weekend.. never more.... face piles of trials with smiles.. We simply went to the county clerk and did it on a Saturday with only our 2 & 3 year old in attendance. My 2 year old in my arms, started crying "no, mama, no!" and jokingly I replied "Is there something you are trying to tell me?" How long has been your longest relationship with a partner? That marriage was 11 years, and that relationship was 19 years in length. I have been married twice and my longest relationship was 29 years with husband #2. Both days were okay....nothing crazy really. Pleasant memories I guess.  ~~Anais Nin~~

I have been married and we never divorced. I love him but can't live with him an dhe is a big part of the family life that includes our son. in fact he walks the dog every morning. the wedding was put together by all of our friends who were musicians and chefs and florists and amazing performers. it cost next to nothing and was stupendodous. a hug blizzard blew in as it was ending and resulted in many people in a bar, a snowball fight, my broken nose, our flight cancelled and 20 people sleeping over. it was a blast. You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Do you have fond memories of your wedding day (or wedding days)? Well, you know, there were so many of them...let me think... Yes, I believe they were all right. What followed wasn't so pleasant, but you know, you get used to it with practice. Not that it always got better- I just got used to it, like walking with a limp. How long has been your longest relationship with a partner? My longest is with my present wife- twelve years. I was with my last ex for eighteen, but much of that was not a relationship. We shared a dwelling and avoided each other. Not entirely successfully, but we tried. You clearly came to your senses sooner than I. Much grief might have been missed by flying the coop after the first couple of years with my third. We live and we learn...some of us. Not me. My present wife is the light of my life and a boon to both my health and spirits, so I did get it right after all. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

My first marriage lasted 13 years.......my present marriage is 31 years this year. I remember the wedding day of both but the second one has great memories!

That would have to be the one with my ex wife as we had kids and therefore it is a till death do us part situation, even if we are divorced. We were married for around 7 years plus two years before getting married. Then we gave it another chance that lasted less than two years. I was crying non-stop on my first wedding day because it was an arranged marriage and I was in love with somebody else. Other two times there were no weddings per se, just a trip to a Justice of Peace. How long has been your longest relationship with a partner? Almost 25 years. I've been married more than 20 years. I remember the wedding days (two days). Some of my friends were drunk. They sang all night, very loud and it was very funny except when in the morning one of them wanted to drive his car. It was very difficult to convince him to go to bed. I knew the woman I married for 9 days !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And not all together. We were a holiday romance, where Greek boy meets English rose with pink nipples. We stayed together for a week, in my then house, and only for the last 3 days of that week we slept together. Then we parted ways for winter, but met again the following year. 3 days later I asked her to marry me. The wedding did not happen for another couple of years. The wedding day was a blast, would do it again for the party, but with a different person.  We stayed together for 20 years, and divorced about 12 years ago.
