Today is a day of reflection as I am flooded with memories of my Mother who would have been “92 years” young.
Although she has been gone seventeen ‘years’, not a day goes by, that I don't think of her.
My mother taught “me” everything, except how “to” live without her.
She had a way of understanding my problems without my even having “to” tell her.
The beautiful memories of the times we spent together, make ‘me’ smile.
There are days, I wish I could have her back, for just a little while.
Then we could sit and talk again, just like we used to do.
She always meant so much to ‘me’, forever and always will too.
I find myself doing a double-take, when I see her image in the mirror....until I realize it is ‘me’, not her, just the way she always knew.

There's a first for everything—and sometimes, when we're lucky enough, it gets caught on film.
A picture is worth a thousand words…
…and this is especially true when said picture includes never-before-seen images. Here are some discoveries and aviation breakthroughs, that have provided stunning pictures
The first photograph of a black hole
In '2017', fifty years after astronomer John Wheeler coined the term “black hole” 'to' describe extremely dense objects possessing such strong gravitational pull that even light cannot escape (the existence of which Einstein had first predicted 51 years before that), a team of scientists actually captured a black hole’s image on film. But it took another two years for the image 'to' make its way to the public—because photographing a black hole involved a worldwide network of radio telescopes from which all the data had 'to' be strategically assembled into a cohesive whole.
The first solar eclipse ever photographed
A total solar eclipse (in which the position of the moon causes a total obstruction of the sun from somewhere on Earth) occurs somewhere on Earth about once every year or two, but the location from which any given solar eclipse is visible can be so remote that no human is present to see it. Nevertheless, a Victorian-age photographer managed to capture the first image of a total solar eclipse in July 1860, just over 20 years after the very first photograph of anything was ever taken.

Photos of airplanes flying are no big deal nowadays, but back in 1903, aviation was still so new that no one had ever captured an image of an airplane flying, let alone taking off. But that’s precisely what happened at Kitty Hawk when Orville Wright arranged for this photo 'to' be taken of the first controlled, sustained, and powered heavier-than-air flight.
The first photo of an underwater atomic bomb
On July 16, 1945, an atomic bomb was detonated for the first time ever in Alamogordo, New Mexico. It was only a test but led 'to' the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki less than a month later. One year later, the U.S. military wanted 'to' test what would happen if they detonated an atomic bomb underwater. This photo shows the detonating of the bomb called “Helen of Bikini” in the middle of Bikini Atoll, part of the Marshall Islands—the first atomic mushroom cloud that rose out of the water.
Northern and Southern Auroras, simultaneously
It was long suspected that the auroras of the north and south were near mirror images of one another, but it wasn’t until October 2002 that a photograph taken by NASA‘s orbiting Polar spacecraft confirmed this.
The first time a plane broke the sound barrier
The reason this photo looks unreal is that what it’s capturing had never ever been captured on film before: It’s the moment a Navy jet fighter plane crashed through the sound barrier. As the plane accelerated towards the speed of sound, shock waves caused a cloud to form, which the plane broke through upon reaching the speed of sound, according to the Acoustics Graduate Program at Penn State University.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon as well as the first human 'to' take a photo while standing on the moon. But, alas, Armstrong was not the first human to be photographed on the moon. That distinction went to Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, who was the second human to walk on the moon but wasn’t holding the camera. Both men left footprints on the moon that are still clearly visible.

Let's Talk About Tantric Sex

Tantra is a Sanskrit word that means ‘woven together.’ Hindu and Buddhist meditation practitioners use the sexual union of tantra sexology as a metaphor for weaving together the physical and the spiritual: weaving humanity 'to' the divine. The Western form of this sacred sexuality called Tantra teaches slow, non-orgasmic sexual intercourse.
So, where do we start?
Begin by facing each other and gazing into each other’s eyes with your clothes on. Focus on one of your partner’s eyes; this keeps you intimately exposed. (Some people look back and forth between the two eyes 'to' reduce the tension).
Make sure you’re breathing the right way (yes, there’s a wrong way). Next, synchronize your breathing with your partner’s: Breathe in together, exhale together. Then move into breath exchange: You inhale when he exhales, then exhale when he inhales, as though you’re breathing each other in. Practice this for at least 10 minutes.
What does tantric sex for beginners look like?
'To' take this into sexual Tantra, try the same process but with clothes off. Sit on your partner’s lap, and wrap your legs around their waist. Do the breath exchange, but move into kissing and caressing. In time, begin slow intercourse, but continue caressing and kissing. Keep eye contact.
As you become more proficient, you can develop the ability for prolonged orgasm. For both women and men, you remain at the peak of ecstatic pleasure without climaxing. There are all the feelings of a typical orgasm, but it lasts for many minutes (or even hours), without a traditional orgasm.
Personal Experience
I can attest the orgasms are unlike any other. No drugs or alcohol of any kind were consumed prior to or during. This was also with someone who had been studying Tantra for years. Although I have never tried hallucinogens, it is the only thing I can liken it 'to'. They were multi-layered, multi-coloured and multi-dimensional. At times, it felt like an out-of-body experience that I was witnessing from above. Afterwards, I slept for hours and woke up with an all-over glow and relaxed.

Carrots
Carrots were originally grown as a medicinal plant in the gardens of ancient Rome. They were also used as an aphrodisiac, and in some cases, as part of a concoction '' prevent poisoning. Red and yellow carrots started '' appear in Europe in the 'th' century. Orange carrots were developed from those yellow varieties.
Heaphones
When you put on headphones, you cover your ears from the natural air, which increases production of bacteria by '700%' in one hour. No wonder extended use can also affect your hearing!
Pistachios
Melatonin is a hormone primarily released by the pineal gland that regulates the sleep–wake cycle. As a dietary supplement, it is often used for the short-term treatment of insomnia.
Dry Tea Bags
Put the tea bags in and leave them overnight. You can also soak your feet in tea every day for 20 minutes to reduce odour. Don't suggest you drink the tea afterwards!
Control Coughing
It helps in breathing by increasing the use of the diaphragm and the airflow. There are mixed opinions if this is an effective method to use when someone is choking.

Never Be Ashamed Of A Scar

Recently, I had an interesting conversation with a friend about being a cancer survivor. It's not something I hide but at the same time, I don't mention it in my profile nor during initial conversations. He chastised me for not declaring my 'status' and that I should shout it from the rooftops!
As I look at it, it's a part of who I am but it doesn't define who I am. I don’t want it 'to' be the centre of conversation. I am fully recovered and have since had another life-threatening illness, less than two years ago. Does that make sense 'to' you?
Let me share a story:
I have 2 small scars on my chest, below my collarbone. I am much less aware of them now and they are only visible depending on the neckline of what I wear. If you look closely at the second picture on my profile, you can spot them.
One time, I met someone new for dinner. After our order was taken, we were sipping cocktails and continuing 'to' get 'to' know each other. At one point, he looked at me and said, ‘What happened to you? Did you get knifed in a fight?’ I almost choked! I put my drink down, looked him straight in the eye and said, ‘No asshole. Those are from my chemo port that saved my life!’ With that, I excused myself and left without turning around. Was he nervous and misspoke? Did I overreact? It doesn’t matter as I have never regretted my decision.
I used 'to' feel obliged 'to' warn a potential partner about my scars (I have a few other ones). However, no one else has ever mentioned them nor asked me about them. Although most have faded, they will always remind me of where I have been. If someone can’t see past them, they aren’t the type of people I want to be around.

How did Canada get its name? Well, it wasn't without some trial and error first; there were many other names in the mix.
Although government officials ultimately settled Canada, which likely comes from the Huron-Iroquois word "kanata" meaning "village," they almost went in a different direction. Here are the other names Canada was almost given.
Albertsland
This name was presumably after Prince Albert, who was married '' Queen Victoria when Canada became a country.
Albionora
Although it sounds like an island straight out of Game of Thrones, the name actually means "Albion of the North." Albion is the oldest name for Great Britain.
Borealia
This name literally translates 'to' "Northern" in Latin.
Brittania
Yet another version of Great Britain.
Cabotia
This name derives from John Cabot, an Italian explorer that mapped much of Canada's Eastern coast for England around 97.
Colonia
Canada was almost just named Colonia, presumably because we're a colony of Great Britain.
Efisga
This cumbersome acrostic was quite literally a combination of the first letters of England, France, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and Aboriginal lands.
Hochelaga
This name originally refers '' an Indigenous village in what is now Quebec. The Iroquoian term is widely thought mean "beaver path" or "beaver lake." Some people have even suggested that the name of Montreal's Osheaga music festival could be derived from Hochelaga.
Mesopelagia
The word translates '' "the land between seas," which is somewhat accurate considering Canada has the world's longest coastline. We're also surrounded by oceans.
Norland
This name breaks down '' the "land in the North." It's a pretty bang-on description, although it would definitely reinforce the Canadian stereotype that we live in igloos.
Superior
No, this doesn't refer '' Lake Superior; it quite literally means higher in rank or status. Canadians certainly wouldn't have the stereotype of being polite and humble if we were named Superiorites.
Transatlantia
Presumably, this name means "crossing the Atlantic," which many English people would have done '' migrate Canada circa the seventeenth century.
Tuponia/Tupona
This name was yet another acrostic, standing for "The United Provinces of North America." It's probably a good thing Canada didn't choose this name, considering our neighbours '' the south are also part of North America.
Victorialand/Victorialia
Queen Victoria was the ruling monarch of the U.K. when Canada became a country in 1867, and the country was almost named in her honour.
The name Canada was ultimately chosen in 1867, more than two years after Thomas D’Arcy McGee made an impassioned speech arguing for the name. "I read in one newspaper not less than a dozen attempts to derive a new name," McGee said. "Now I ask any honourable member of this House how he would feel if he woke some fine morning and found himself instead of a Canadian, a Tuponian or a Hochelagander."

Being Vulnerable Does Not Mean You Are Weak

A friend sent that image . They sensed I was feeling a little down because of recent disappointments and challenges. They encouraged me open and talk about what was bothering .
It also made think about what being vulnerable means.
Being vulnerable can be scary. But, it’s also a powerful and authentic way '' live. It takes strength and bravery. There’s always a possibility of being hurt, among other things.
Vulnerability is often seen as a weakness. Deciding '' put yourself 'out there' is the opposite of being weak.
Being vulnerable means yourself thoroughly, and being honest about how you feel. You don’t close yourself off any emotion, because vulnerability means whatever may come, and expressing that openly.
Being vulnerable involves uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure. Being vulnerable isn’t the choice we have make. The choice is how we respond when confronted with those elements of vulnerability.
I am sharing this as a reminder everyone that every time you allow yourself be vulnerable, you actually empower yourself.

I Am Not Saying You Are Stupid

When I was growing up, calling someone 'stupid' was almost as bad as swearing. It just wasn't allowed. To this day, I don't think I have called someone stupid. However, I have told someone their actions were stupid.
You know the people I mean:
They think yelling at someone whose first language isn't English, is gong to make them understand them.
They run across multiple lanes of traffic on a red light, to catch a bus.
They think no one will notice when they go through the grocery store Express Line with a full shopping cart .
They like having a but not the responsibility of cleaning up after them.
They think asking the same question over and over again will result in a different answer.
They get behind the wheel of car to drive when they aren't sober.
They wear their mandatory face mask around their neck or pull it up to slurp their coffee or other beverage.

I love my country and I love 'to' travel. Not sure when I will be able 'to' once again, 'hit the road' but it's fun 'to' look for different and unique places 'to' visit. While these may not be destinations in and of themselves, these quirky roadside attractions certainly make the journey across Canada more interesting!
The Sourtoe Cocktail
The Sourdough Saloon in Dawson City, Yukon has a rather unusual item on its drinks menu: a cocktail containing a mummified human toe. Yes, really. The toe is said to have belonged to a turn-of-the-century rum runner who lost his digit to frostbite while evading the local law enforcement. If you can manage 'to' down a Sourtoe Cocktail (and “kiss” the toe which bobs around in your glass) you will walk away with a little extra swagger—and a certificate commemorating the achievement. The Moss Lady

No One Can Make You Feel Inferior Without Your Consent

These words are a remarkably insightful statement about self-esteem. When I saw them recently in a daily newsletter, I wanted 'to' understand their origin.
Eleanor Roosevelt uttered that phrase about an awkward event in 1935. The Secretary of Labor in the Roosevelt administration was invited 'to' give a speech at the University of California, Berkeley on the Charter Day of the school. The customary hostess of the event was unhappy because she felt that the chosen speaker should not have been a political figure. She refused 'to' serve as the host and several newspapers viewed her action as a rebuff and an insult.
When Mrs. Roosevelt was asked at a White House press conference whether the Secretary had been snubbed, her response was widely reported. “A snub” defined the first lady, “is the effort of a person who feels superior 'to' make someone else feel inferior. To do so, he has to find someone who can be made to feel inferior.”
Through the years, I have encountered people who tried to use this tactic. With maturity and life’s experience, I realized it has everything to do with them and nothing 'to' do with me. They often have insecurities and it helps them to feel better about themselves if others are unhappy. A happy person will not be motivated to make others feel miserable.
I am a strong, confident, resilient woman who has faced many challenges head-on. I do remind myself of this, counting each day as a blessing with the refusal 'to' be made ‘to’ feel inferior by someone else’s insecurities.

Well-behaved Women Seldom Make History

You may have seen that quote on greeting cards, posters, coffee mugs, bumper stickers or t-shirts.
Everyone from Eleanor Roosevelt, Marilyn Monroe, Gloria Steinem to Kim Kardashian have been incorrectly given credit for these words. The originator is Pulitzer Prize winning historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich.
In a 1976 article about Puritan funeral services, Ulrich included the phrase "well-behaved women seldom make history”. People misinterpreted it to mean women should misbehave in order to be memorable. It got picked up and went viral.
After seeing her words misquoted and popping up all over the place, Ulrich saw it as a reflection on popular culture. She decided to turn it into a teaching moment and authored a book by that title. Her book examines the ways in which women have shaped history. It includes women who never intended to make history but often did in different ways.
The next time you see the quote "well-behaved women seldom make history" you may not remember Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's name, but I hope you at least remember who didn’t write them.
