Blogs and groups now have customizable background colors!

Customize the look of your blogs and groups by changing your background colors. Click on the "Colors" link and try it out (you can always return your blog to default colors). You should be able to color individual posts as well.

Have fun!

It is safe to make the changes in the groups? There were some problems recently with this "upgrade.

Do you think maybe later the default size of font used can be changed too?

Andrew replies on 12/15/2006 11:51 pm:
Hmmm... most browsers set the default font size (e.g., older members often increase the default font size). You can adjust the font size in your individual posts... but not globally.

Also, I have just posted this in my Blog for those that do not know the "RGB" colors codes, they can be typed in to the new addition to easily edit the colors instead of searching the color palete.

I have another request... any possible way to fix this site so that when you google someones handle, that their profile and every post they've ever done on here doesn't show up in the search results????? That would be a terrific upgrade to have some privacy within the confines of the site!

Thanks!

Andrew replies on 12/15/2006 11:39 pm:
Yes, I know that setting blogs to be readable by member's only is in progress. If I get some time this weekend, I'll see about adding it.

It is nice to have the option, but my first profile, and all the blog entries/comments I made were wiped out when I turned my profile off temporarily. I wrote customer service more than once, since I had some really good entries there and never heard from them, nor do I exist with the old name. I did rejoin, as a standard member, and certainly glad that I decided to remain a standard member, since your customer service appears to be less than stellar.

Let me know what your previous account handle was and I can see about copying over your old blog to your new handle and turn on all your old posts. Actually, your posts should not been wiped out but made invisible until you turn your old profile back on.

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 12:35 am:
Hmmm... should be both on the main page of the blogs and in the upper right section of your blog... next to "settings".

Thanks Goddess! Hopefully the color picker will help - it takes a while to figure out which colors are for what. Only suggest people choose lighter colors so the text is more readable.

Only one thing I would like to address here is that this is not quite so "user friendly" in defining the area that color changes can be made.

I did a little more work here to trying to help the Bloggers to knowing the table and cell areas that colors are being changed when selected.

This is what I came up with below:
Primary TableThis will set the color of the background color to the table with the Calendar, Recent Visitors, People who like this blog, also like, Most Recent Comments by Others, Most Recent Comments by your own that is on the right side of your Blog Home Page.
Row 1 This will set the background color of your first Topic Posting on your Blog Home Page and then the Topic Post after the next. Row 1 and Row 2 are alternating Topic Posting background colors. In addition, your commenter of your Topic will show as the Background Color used on the home page of your Blog of Row 1.
Row 2This will set the background color of your second Topic Posting on your Blog Home Page and then the Topic Post after the next. Row 1 and Row 2 are alternating colors. In addition, your commenter of your Topic will show as the Background Color used on the home page of your Blog of Row 1.

Secondary Table This will set the color to your Blog Description (Introduction), in addition, when opening a Topic Post of yours, this color will be the background color of your Topic Posting. The background colors you have chosen in Row 1 and 2 in the Primary Table are not used when opening a Topic posting.
Row 1This will set the color of the first row background color to the table with the Calendar, Recent Visitors, People who like this blog, also like, Most Recent Comments by Others, Most Recent Comments by your own that is on the right side of your Blog Home Page.
Row 2This will set the color of the second row background color to the table with the Calendar, Recent Visitors, People who like this blog, also like, Most Recent Comments by Others, Most Recent Comments by your own that is on the right side of your Blog Home Page.
This portion of this posting is in my Blog for those that wish to have it for future reference or to share it with other Bloggers. How the Colors are Defined to the Tables

I have come across at least one problem. If I use a black background on my blog, the black text will not show up. For instance, my blog title "Skin" has now disappeared into the black background. It would be nice if we could customize the text color in the blog title. Also, if we could change the text link color from the standard blue.

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 10:05 am:
Yes, we might add text color changes later. For now, suggest using lighter colors.

Here is an idea about graphics added. How about textures or image backgrounds? Like wallpapers used; i.e. Marble, Bubbles, Feather etc... and maybe custom ones that members can upload too. Talk about some "Pimped up Blogs" if that was made available.

That's where I'm headed in the background department... just will take a bit more time to implement (and I'm sure others have other priorities). I try to roll out something new every once in a while

When this first was 100% live last night, we were able to manually set the RGB codes by typing them in the text boxes. Has this changed for some reason?

Andrew replies on 12/16/2006 4:46 pm:
I didn't know that anything changed. You can set the rgb values after you click the box to the left of the table rows.

I found the problem I was having and also possibly a few other members.

Entering the RGB Color Codes manually works only in Mozilla Firefox; however, entering the RGB Color Codes manually in IE6 the color codes are not changed or saved by entering them manually. I have not tested this on IE7 or Opera as of yet. I will later though

Thanks Andrew,
Nick

Thank you for this cool feature, and thanks to SensuallyKatey for explaining how to use it!

Reading blogs with different color schemes will be nice. I'm sure somebody will set text/background combinations with too little contrast. But when I find one, I'll highlight the text and read it that way.

Andrew,

This may seem off topic but it is not.

There are members feeling that the groups are suffering in activity because of the Blog sections, an idea of one of my members of my group was that it would be nice if the members in groups could also add a photo to the side of topic postings as done in the Blog section. I just wanted to pass this on, as I do agree with him since those photos can help increase the activity in the groups with its members.

Andrew, I hope you do not mind me posting a these links for members in your Blog in helping explain how the table colors are defined. This is for coloring individual topic postings.

For those that wish to change the color backgrounds of individual topic postings this is how they are defined by the color selector.

This can be only done from when a topic posting is open by clicking edit colors.

Primary Table This will set the color of the Title Bar and Borders.
Row 1This will set the background of the comment posting area
Row 2Has no effect in the colors once Primary and Row 1 are set..
Secondary TableThis will fill the background of your Topic post.
Row 1Has no effect once Primary and Row 1 of the Primary table are set.
Row 2Has no effect once Primary and Row 1 of the Primary table are set.
Highlight. Will highlight member profile in posting searches

These are links to other postings in my Blog that have been independently colored. However, the color formats are not seen until clicking on the comment link at the bottom of each one..

I've been busy with the team on a new site that we are going to launch in beta mode next week. Once it goes live, our team will be more focused on cleaning up code/features for this site.
That would be nice because there are some database corruption issues that have been around for months now - like the varying number of "Friends" that we have depending on where we're looking. And yes, it's been reported to Customer Service many times. Luckily, we're not holding our breath for a solution.

They are not visible in the Groups at all. Only Gold members are able to insert a photo into a posting that can be done anywhere, (i.e. Magazine sections, Blogs, Groups but not visible to the Standard members).

All we have is the moderator chosen group photo on the description home page, but nothing to personlize a members topic posting with a photo as done in the Blogs. If I may suggest, it would be nice in groups if a member posting a topic could upload a photo that would be under their profile photo. On the left side of the topic.

Hi there

just wondered as I am about to start my own blog.....I have been a paying gold member from the first day I joined this site and yet I have received what I consider to be an abusive email from a standard member who has had multiple profiles(all of them standard and therefore free)informing me that unless I am prepared to comment on her blog every time I visit I should not visit her blog at all....

Is it compulsory to comment?and how is it on this site a free member can dictate what a paying member can do?? I was too much of a lady to say to her that I was actually waiting for an interesting blog from her to actually comment on?????
any advice would be appreciated please

thanks

I would like to be able to add more graphics and animated gifs please ) to blogs as well as to group posts. There are obviously a lot of creative people here, and it could only enhance their creativity.

And, when adding a graphic to a group's main page, it would be heaven to be able to place it on the page without it defaulting left and having the text NOT wrap around it.

I know, I know, I want everything.

hippie

p.s. "Remove all inactive members from your friends network" looked great, and gave confirmation nicely, but didn't remove the inactive members for me. Has this function worked for anyone?

Elevate me...

Little bug I've discovered in the colours settings...

When I post a comment to someone elses' blog, the updated blog will display in the colours of MY blog, rather than theirs. When I go to another blog, and then back to the first, the colours return to their set scheme.

A minor problem, to be sure, but one that ought to be corrected...
