Live8... A travesty of Justice OK, I am here in Philadelphia, and I could have gone down to the concert in person.... IF I wanted to try and wade through over 1millioon people... IF I could have found a babysitter... and IF I knew that MTVs coverage of the event was going to be so deplorable that it should be criminal. I stupidly thought that I would have a better seat on my couch than trying to see and hear on the parkway. First off, MTV could have started their coverage at 7am at least. I mean London had some of the greatest acts that I wanted to see. What did we see instead??? Re-runs of "Date My Mom" and " My Ride". Gimme a break people!! Second, when they did get to the actual airing, I was thinking that they would be watching the Philly bands, and in between sets, interspersing the bands from the other venues around the world. Did that happen??? NO!!!!!!! What did they do, they show parts of some of the Philly acts.... half a song from Bon Jovi??? Partial song from U2??? A snippet of Black Eyed Peas??? and on and on and on... after they let part of the song go, they cut to their VJs and had them talking to the crowd, and then cutting to commercial while the bands were still on stage!!! GRRRRRRRR frustrating. Third... There were more commercials than the Super Bowl... More talking by the VJs than Howard Stern (I love him btw)... And then they started repeating some of the acts and songs that they showed earlier in the day, rather than show what was going on LIVE!!!! THEY are so lucky that they didn't cut away from The Who and Pink Floyd. I think if they would have done that with them that they would have had more of a revolt than they could have imagined. I still think cutting off U2 was a sin, especially since Bono was instrumental in bringing it all together. I could care less about the VJs, and the artists did enough speaking out about why they were there. The coverage of Live Aid back in 1985 was so much better. Sooooooooo, in closing... FUCK YOU MTV... YOU RUINED A GREAT EVENT... THE ARTISTS DID IT FOR FREE, WHY COULDN'T YOU!!!!! THANK YOU BOB GELDOF, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BRINGING THIS TOGETHER... AGAIN. |

I agree. MTV Stinks! And by the way, MTV did cut off Pink Floyd. David Gilmour was in a lead solo during "Comfortably Numb" and they go to commercial... talk about numb moves. Not to mention the VJs in London who talked over the backend of that song too. Please bring us a better music network!

rockwriter, you are right... I was so happy to see 3 complete songs and most of a 4, I guess I just forgot about that... It is still better than them cutting away at the start of Money... or worse yet, before the end of Breathe. I did break out the cassette tape to record the local radio station, so I got them all.

you should have come down to the parkway... it was way too much fun... I will be writing about some of it in my blog probably tomorrow

This has nothing to do with Affairlook, but somebody is sure being screwed. That is Nations of Africa are robbed of 138 billion dollars every year, by their own corrupted Governments. Dictators of Nigeria stole 500 billion dollars just in last dozen years or so. Corruption in Kenya is so bad that all humanirian aid was stopped. We are sorry to say, but it would probably take 10 million US Marines to jail present leaders and distribute food and education to the richest continent on Earth, Africa is.

Postscript Just tried to post about MTV's poor ratings for Live 8, but the current posts blogboard jammed, so no one saw it. Here's an excerpt if anyone is interested. MTV’s coverage was poor. Mindless VJs chattered while great bands were playing in the background. (Good commentary is always appreciated but MTV has rarely if ever demonstrated the ability to cablecast informative music commentary.) MTV routinely cut-away from songs in midstream for commercials, (and there were far too many commercial spots for a concert series meant to raise awareness of world poverty) self-promotion, or empty chatter. Thanks for the ranting space....
