REALITY CHECK using Logic

I was on a vanilla dating site, and a quiz question asked,

"Should a comedian have to apologize for jokes made years ago that are now considered offensive?" (paraphrasing here)

Well, let's apply some logic to that query.

1. EVERTHING is offensive to SOMEone. Think hard about that. I mean it literally.

Even saying "The sky is blue" will offend someone who hates the color blue. It is impossible to know beforehand what kind of fucked up rules/standards are inside the heads of everyone within earshot of what you say.

2. Feeling offended is a choice. No one can offend you if you don't care what their opinions are. Why would you give anyone that power over you?

3. There is a good reason that the very first amendment in the bill of rights assures you of free speech; it didn't always exist. To this very day, all sorts of groups and gangs want to attempt to restrict your right......but the only way to have this right is to honestly give it to all others.

4. Stereotypes are commonly cited in jokes. Think for a moment. Stereotypes didn't pop out of thin air, they arose from observation of real life examples. Are they universal? No. But citing a few exceptions can't disprove a general rule or a factual real life observation.

5. If I don't like the stereotypes that are associated with my group, I look at my group. If any of them are perpetuating the stereotype, it is on me to address THEM and correct THEM, not the comedian or critic stating the unpleasant truth.

6. There is a huge difference between a literal threat and a mere insult. Your feelings cannot, and should not, be protected by laws.

The bullshit precedent "You are not free to shout "FIRE" in a crowded theater" is totally inimical to the bedrock of American Values: PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.

YOU are responsible for where you go, and how you react to what you hear, no one else.

If you suffer a tort from something someone says, the civil courts afford you ample opportunity to prove it and obtain redress.

The PC agenda is to CRUSH the concept of personal accountability.

The asshole cop choked the black guy to death. That was wrong, but NO ONE IS SPEAKING THE FULL TRUTH:

He was in fact a past criminal, he had in fact committed a recent crime, he was in fact fleeing from arrest, he did indeed refuse to surrender.

Should he die for just that? I am not saying that at all. I am saying HE VOLUNTARILY and HUGELY contributed to the circumstances of his death by FREE CHOICE.

Words of Wisdom:

No, I don't get along with anybody who's a drug addict and has a dark cloud over their head and sees themselves as a victim. Drug addicts and alcoholics are always: "The world is a harsh place."
My mother was in a concentration camp in Nazi Germany. I don't want to hear fuck all about "the world as a harsh place." She gets up every day, smells the roses and loves life. And for a putz, 20-year-old kid to say, "I'm depressed, I live in Seattle." Fuck you, then kill yourself.
