Quality of Life Recommendations

The new normal here in Northern California (red counties Calabama, not the Bay Area, or to use a Game of Thrones line: the real north) has two seasons now.

Season one: cold. It lasts maybe two months.

Season two: Fire. This is possible the other ten months of the year and is currently the thing here right this very second. Gagging, choking, headache fire.

The big Dixie (see, I told you, Calabama) fire has now spread into three counties and probably threatening to jump into a fourth. When you look at it on a map, it's like 25 miles from anywhere, on the east side. It's THAT big -- now the second largest fire in California history. It's wiping out Lassen Park, it could jump to Old Station, a favorite camping area, or head toward Shingletown and march toward Redding. It could hop back down toward Paradise and Chico. It could head east toward the Nevada border.

It's fucking huge!

So, for the sake of discussion (I'm bored), if one were wanting to relocate, what do you all recommend? Oddly I've been to several places in Europe but only a handful of places in the US.

Some caveats for recommendations:

1) I live and work around the anti-intellectual set (Trumpers, anti-vaxxers, climate science deniers, etc.) so I can sort of deal with that as long as they're mostly closeted. Flagrant bigotry, however, is a huge "no thank you," for me. Non-fact-based opinion and some willful ignorance is annoying but survivable, so ...

2) I'm literally sick of fire season. Is there any place where climate change is doing some good? Where maybe there's some sane forest management? Maybe more rain? Or maybe not having any affect at all yet? Utah looks beautiful. Idaho would be nice if they'd deal with the white supremacists.

What recommends an area?

Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama.... mostly unaffected by “climate change”.. with the exception of parts of Georgia (for the most part).. no earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, flash floods or fire. There (sadly) will be morons anywhere you go. The unintelligent, the blissfully ignorant, the blatantly unenlightened... the clearly uneducated. Just pick your battles.. remember... you’ve lived here.. you e learned to be a tree.. you can bend (& without breaking) & let all the negative roll off. Keep your truth with you.
