absentia
absentia it's not like i don't have a million things to say it's not as if i don't wonder what folks are up to and fret that i'm not keeping up. it's more a sense of season i think. it's colder now and when i come home, i find myself making tea and pulling up a quilt and reaching for a book. the computer looks so far away and chilly sitting by the window. a sense of pulling inward and charlie and i are comfy on my bed. work is very hard right now as we prepare for winter and some of the other shelters on the north shore are limiting guests. we will see a good deal of overflow. the push is still for rapid rehousing but with no housing it's just a push against a door that's nailed shut. been nailed shut for three years now. i feel like i could sleep forever. like a bear going into hibernation. curled up under a pile of quilts because i refuse to turn the heat on until November. i only crawl out for food, a book and to take charlie out to do his thing. he is like me for now; content to curl up with me and in a soft circle by my side huffing gently, sleeping his day away. would that i were wealthy and could afford to do this for more than two days a week. that laundry didn't pile up and demand my attention. that we didn't need food in the house. i've gone adrift. my pile of books is 17 high, held and read. i feel gluttonous for more words. i watch only movies made in the 30's and 40's. i've become absent from the world. are you fonder of me? grins You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

i've gone adrift. my pile of books is 17 high, held and read. i feel gluttonous for more words. i watch only movies made in the 30's and 40's. i've become absent from the world. I usually start using heat November 1st and turn it off April 30th, but I may break it by a few days this year. I thought I saw you far off in the foggy distance, from my perch drifting with 7 books, movies from the 70s and 80s, and Netflix. It's ok sometimes.

Books, movies, a loving dog, an a quilt...what more could a girl want? You've been missed. Never ignore those who care for you you will have lost diamonds while you were collecting stones

I would bring you tea and sit in silence. Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale Her infinite variety. Other women cloy The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry Where most she satisfies. For vilest things Become themselves in her, that the holy priests Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra

We wimps here in the south turned the heat on yesterday morning when the house was 67 inside and it was 41 outside. I have missed your mind but totally understand you need for words. I have been visiting books like old friends lately.

Oh for heaven's sake, turn on the heat! (Here in MN, the "thrifty" people refuse to turn it on before October - just pretend that you live in MN) The rest of it - reading and movie watching - sounds great. I've been trying to do more reading, less internet, as well. Enjoy yourself...

Indeed you were and are missed, dear WE. I am not much of a regular here either, but pop back in now & again to see who is where. What a great pleasure to see you highlighted again. I'm in the resisting hibernation mode myself, but not terribly successfully at times. IF I'm chilly when I get up, and have put on my robe & slippers (oh my gawd do I sound that OLD?) then I visit the thermostat right now. Then, mid-day, when the sun has warmed everything, I turn it back down to 55, my default temperature. IF I'm lucky, the house isn't back to 55 by next morning, but I sure do sleep more comfortably in a cooler room. At least, I know I'm lucky to have the option of choosing my comforts! I get to the environs of Boston, now & again, WE; somehow we'll have to find a way to communicate so that we can share a pot of tea someday. Chas
