what real chutzpah is There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena. During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the WarsawGhetto, as a Nurse. She had an 'ulterior motive' .. She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the /infants noises. During her time doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 /infants. She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar ,buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family. Most had been gassed. Those she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted. Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize ... She was not selected. Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming. She died, whilst being nursed by one of the she saved from the gas chamber. there are times when i feel such utter weariness. when i wonder if getting up is worth the bother. whatever you do, that touches another human being, that potentially alters the energy of the world, moving it a centimeter away from evil to good, is worth the effort. can you imagine the courage that this took? the chutzpah? You cannot conceive the many without the one. |

A slide-show based on a lie, no less. What's even more insideous is how many people in this world (the US in particular) think that the evil of Hitler's Reich won't happen again--or hasn't, and worse. Some few people, like Irene, do what they know must be done, while most others, like the Nazi-machine (as an example), do what they know should never be done. Evil ain't never goin' away while anyone knows what should never be done... and decides they're gonna do it anyway... because they ain't got the balls to whack the fucking lunatic who's tellin' them it's OK--they're superior. Ya know? Ever wonder why we didn't train 10,000 snipers... German AMERICANS... and send them over to take that fuckin' bastard, and his handful of minions, out? With all the sacrifices made on the battlefields, I can't imagine there wouldn't have been 10,000 real Germans willing to make that same sacrifice right there at Nazi Command-Central. What about Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Amin, etc, and on and on? I suppose the UN made a difference? Sure it did. I guess we gotta have us a WW in order to get people to think in terms of "good" vs "evil"--ya think? Bet on it... ones comin'--soon, too. But that ain't gonna stop evil, either. In fact, it's gonna bring in true evil. But no amount of snipers are gonna take out who's gonna be runnin' things at that point. Solar...

I remember reading about her when I read about the Warsaw uprising. Excellent, thoughtful post about an incredible story.
