What is it worth? My Gold Membership expired today because I shut off the auto update features; the auto-update for Regular members to contact me was also shut off. In the last month that I was Golden, here is a bit of what has happened: * Nearly 100 people looked at my profile. The overwhelmingly vast majority of them were either not from my area, not connected to my interests, or were scammers. * The largest category was the latter: for example, somebody from 20km away with the caption "Oh babe, I want to fuck you right now" or something similar, followed by a shorter URL. The pictures were almost always of white girls. Anybody who knows where I live (deep in the Japanese countryside / "La Japon Profonde") knows that the number of white girls living around here as a percentage of the population is less than 1%. The percentage of those who want to have sex "right now" is even smaller. * The second largest category of scammer was from China or Korea. * In both of the above categories, 95% of the profiles were made on the day that my profile was viewed. Many of these profiles were later "turned off". *REAL TIME UPDATE: As I typed the last three paragraphs, yet another of these "admirers" has looked. Here she is: so-called "Rebecca727ob" from 77km away. "Do you want to have sex?" she asks, and then helpfully adds another URL for her scam (a secure ht code, followed by goo dot gl blackslash 7GxmJb). When I click on her profile link I am told that it is "unavailable". * The people who flirt with me are almost always on a different continent. When I look at their profile, inevitably there is language like "Seriously looking only for people in my area..." or something similar. That does rather beg the question of why they are flirting with somebody who lives on a different continent... * Friend requests go unanswered or unacknowledged... * Mail that has been sent is the same: unacknowledged or unanswered. * Chats are similar. In the past month, only two chats that I initiated were picked up: one was dropped immediately, the other went on for a few minutes before we both kindly signed off. Chat requests sent to the scammers described above went unanswered (so much for wanting immediate sex...). In that same time, three chats were sent to me, all by people with profiles of the type described above. In each case, after I responded to their chat invitation nothing further happened. Why do I write all of this? I have been a member of this site before, as both a regular member and as a paying (Gold) member, over a period more than ten . I rejoined this site after an absence to see if anything had changed. It has not. The scamming bullshit prevalent in the past continues; if anything, it is now worse. This site wants to know if I wish to "upgrade" and become a "Premium" member. Why would I want to do that, based on what has happened both over the past month and over my past history on this site? For me, paying for membership has definitely not been worth it. Of course, each user has a different experience. I know that this site is North America-focused and that areas like Japan are not a priority. I'd love to read about your experience, especially if it is different. Please do comment. Until then, I have no doubts that this site is a larger example of the smaller scams that seem to be running on it everyday.
