Another option for your books - there’s an organization in Minneapolis called the Women’s Prison Book Project. Just what it sounds like. There may be something similar in your area.
Hmmm... Now THERE'S something that I never would have thought about. 😶
I wonder if women in prisons read Jean Paul Sartre or Karl Jung? 🤔
If I was the prison librarian, I'd start them off with a light (heavily used) paperback - 'A Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy'.
On second thought... I'm going to keep THAT one. Maybe one of my daughters would enjoy it.
I'm staring at my bookshelves now... Sheesh, what a challenge. 🤔❗❗😎

Dear Paul,

Happy Weekend...What an interesting post. Thought provoking indeed..I love to collect things..and have given or donated some o f them..The only things I would never surrender are the ones from My Mom & Dad..(Neither are still with Us ) I have cleared out relatives homes after we lost them so know all about stuff left behind..It was important to them so it was important to Us to make sure we handled everything correctly.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ana6

Mementos from close relatives are always dear. Yet... would there be a price (really high one) where you'd consider letting them go?
Interesting choices to be sure. 🤔

I'm a 'Car', guy so I will start here. For me, IF the person would enjoy and respect the ride, it might be for sale for the right price. Where it may be going is sometimes more important than a few extra $$$. IF I built/restored the vehicle myself, I have more of a vested interest in the vehicle and less likely to sell, however unfortunately for me, I can't keep them all. If I just bought vehicle at auction, and didn't do much to it, I am more likely to part with it for the right price.

I also have a few things, mostly items that remind me of someone special in my life that are probably worthless or of very little value, but are priceless to me and I would never part with them. Like some of your other commentators above, I would rather either hand them down to the next generation, or give them to someone who would really appreciate them. Great post.

As a car guy, you can relate. My car has been a work in progress and I have it sooo close to where I want it. It's extremely nimble, powerful and tracks turns at 90 degree angles... effortlessly. That guy was blown away.
What prevented the sale was my car guy's lack of a comparable replacement. And I can't live without a ride in this city - while waiting for the right car to show up. 😶
True about stuff that reminds you of someone or 'keepsakes'.
But the last thing I want, is to see what happens when others have left this planet.
Their 'keepsakes' are thrown out.
You know what I mean? Sad...
Hey.. thanks for popping in. 👍

I don't know how much of an opportunity it really was. If I had the time to look for a car for myself.. perhaps. But the offer - as good as it was - fell short of putting me into a similarly equipped car. So...
Mementos are hard to part with.
Then again... what might happen to them when you decide to leave the planet 🌏? 🤔
    Choices...
I shouldn’t have trivialized them...they are much more than keepsakes or mementoes, including the house I live in. I can’t control what happens once I am gone unless I come back to haunt my kids or send them a sign and they will know it’s me telling them “No!”

I understand what you mean.
Now about that haunting thingy...
Ya think there's a book 📙 on how to perfect that trick? 🤔

I have a gold chain that belonged to my grandma. She'd had thyroid surgery and was very self conscious about her scar, so my Aunt, her sister, had gotten her this chain. She wore it up until the day she died and my grandpa had given me the chain at her request. I am 100% honest when I say, no amount of money will every make me part with this necklace.

Dear Paul,

Happy Sat...I can honestly say No..there is no price ( even really really High ) that would convince me to sell. I have already told my nieces what they will be receiving from My estate & they in turn can pass them down to their own daughters one day..Keeping things in the family that belonged to Family members..

Hugs,

Good question, it depends on the value to you! T=In this world, they are collector and buyer. Most people want the profit, while other just wanted have something that rare and admired by many.

Collector vs buyer... good point.
I had a buyer but his number wasn't quite good enough for me to sell! 👍
