TURKEY

Yep it's almost here again. TURKEY DAY!!!!! what memories that brings to mind from days long ago when I was young.

I lived in a two story flat, and my grandparents lived in the flat below. So when it was Thanksgiving or Christmas the other Uncles would land with my cousins and Gram would roast this gigantic turkey with a mountain of mashed potatoes and gravy.

All my cousins and I would play all day waiting for that bird to get finished. When gram set the table you could almost hear it groan from the weight of the food on it. We would gather at the table and then eat until you felt like your tummy was ready to burst!!!! I can remember my gram, she would always tell us, if we ate to much that we should go outside, run around the block shouting fire!! then we would feel better from the run lol. She would always make us laugh when she said that.

Then of course we would all sit and moan and groan about being too full and wait for the football game. Lord, I remember the game where they broke into the Lions game with the movie "Heidi" Lol, they damn near burned the tv station to the ground for that one as it was in the very last few minutes of the 4th quarter, and it was a VERY close game, a field goal or TD would be the decider!! and Whoops!!! we are looking at Heidi.

Later we would have dessert, Grams pumpkin pie, with real whipped cream, and jello with fruitcocktail and walnuts and bananas in it!! I love that to this day its one of my favorite things.

This year, it will be my and I. My is in Iraq, and I will be missing him terribly. We will watch the football game and hope to see him on TV when they do the salute from the troops for the families at home.

Memories are so wonderful, you can close your eyes and be tarnsported back to those wonderful happy days.

This year, my thanks will be that my is still alive, and safe. My parents are alive and healthy and my is my greatest treasure!! she puts up with me, loves me, and takes very good care of me always.
