Why are we so polarized politically......

When growing up, in the early 60's and 70's, politicians seemed like they were civil and had a sense of decorum except in the deep south when it had to do with civil rights for minorities. For the most part, the major presidential election or senatorial seats, it usually had two politicians battling for the office, it seemingly was a debate of positions and policy, personal attacks were off limits. Today, those leaning far to the right, really on the fringe of their political party if they don't get their way (abortion, education vouchers, immigration etc) they throw a fit like a spoiled , stomp their feet (figuratively) and take their ball and go home.

We called that type of action in the local the playground "punk'ish", or "just being a punk". We, the United States of America, used to be a civilized nation. One nation as a model civilization to look up to, for more than our powerful military. Our various freedoms plus opportunity for all were paramount.

Today, many countries have caught up to us in ways to do business, the technology arena and the sciences. Maybe we have gotten complacent and many in our country think leisure and fun was far more important than education.

I will share about my street, where I grew up, in Compton, Ca. (which is now know for gangster rappers and shootings), out of the 15 on my block, 11 have college degrees (4 from Ivy league type schools - almost 25 percent), 8 of us have master's degrees or professional degrees (law/medical). All of our have college degrees, except two (my older nephew became a commercial diver and younger nephew still in middle school).

How has education become a bad thing for the urban and rural areas of our country in less than 40 years? Why is a woman's right to make decisions about her own body an issue with the religious / right to choose factions?

Remember It is she who has to deal with the aftermath, emotional issues (if any) and come face to face with her creator and explain herself no the religious right! Imagine if religion told you that beef is sacrilegious? And protests happened at the local butcher or supermarket?

How did we as a country become so divided?
