On August 23rd, celebrate a sandwich that originated in Cuba, but grew up in Florida. National Cuban Sandwich Day is a tribute to flavor found in a toasted pressed sandwich.While the Cubano traditionally consists of ham, roast pork, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on Cuban bread, restaurants and home cooks serve up different versions. While the sandwich alone may serve as a satisfying meal, some very flavorful sides complement this globe-trotting sandwich. Like any grilled sandwich, a creamy, dunkable soup makes the perfect complement. Consider making this delicious Smoky Roasted Corn Soup. Another favorite side dish is seasoned sweet potato fries.
I was first introduced to this sandwich in Puerto Rico many years ago. I think the best thing about is that there is a basic sandwich that each proprietor modifies slightly. It is substantial and honestly if you are a sandwich person you will probably love it. Have you tried one? If you have not, would you be to try one?

 I was married to a Puerto Rican and currently live in Florida. I know all about Cubans. However, I dislike mustard, pickles, and Swiss cheese. So, as you can imagine, it's not something I enjoy. However, Latin pulled pork? I make that shit almost every Sunday.

 These look amazing, I had no idea it was National Cuban Sandwich Day as I hadn't looked at that calendar. I hope you get to enjoy one today as we don't have them here. I hope your Sunday is a relaxing one..
