Star Wars / Firefly

When I first saw the preview for “Firefly”, Josh Whedon’s Sci-fi/Western, I was excited and thought: "Why didn’t someone think of that before?” It was such a revolutionary (in my head) idea.

Imagine, using the Civil War theme of the 1800s as an inter-planetary revolution? Oh, my! I never missed an episode of that show.

Why wouldn’t that work? How on earth could that be too high-tech for television viewers? Star War's-like movie? Once per week? Lots of action? Interesting intrigue?

It took me years to realize: “Oh shit! I’d seen this before!” “Star Wars/Firefly;” Han Solo/Mal Reynolds! I had been having so much fun with “Firefly” and her crew (especially Inara and the sexual tension between herself and Mal) that I ended up being completely blind to the conceptual similarities.

But I was still torn up when they decided to cancel. I think that was very short-sighted on the part of the powers that be.

Thank you for the correction. That's unforgivable.

One would think that after his success with the Avengers movie Joss would get the green light if he approached any studio to re-make the series, but I guess his plate is really full right now. Plus, he did mention how little free time he gets these days.

I don't ever miss Castle although I do find his daughter and mother a real turn-off.

I did see the movie which was called "Serenity." I did like it but it seemed "rushed' to me, which might have been a psychological response on my part to the fact that the series was cancelled prematurely.

Thanks for visiting. Hope you'll drop by again.

When Firefly was cancelled was my first acceptance of how dumb studio executives were, and the moment that I started paying attention to how much I really hated a lot of shows on TV at that time; because I believed that the good shows were cancelled and the crap were allowed to survive.

I loved Firefly and became a Josh Whedon fan as of then.
