Winter.....so soon?

We're not even a month into Autumn, and we've had our first snow. Yesterday, the snowflakes started falling, but it melted as soon as it hit the ground. This morning, the ground was covered in a cold, white carpet about 1 inch thick. The trees are also covered, every little branch and twig....what leaves that still cling to the twigs are covered as well. Yep, it's mid October here in NW Pennsylvania....the time we usually get our first snowfall. This will melt off, and we'll get to enjoy several more warm, sunny days before Winter claims the area, and holds it until April..... Myself, I love the changing seasons, yes, even Winter....there's so much to do: skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, building a snowman, having a friendly snowball fight, ice fishing, ice skating....not in a rink, Hell, people can skate on fake ice down in Florida! There's nothing like skating on a stream, river, pond or lake....just be sure the ice is safe! The best thing about Winter is being outside having fun with family and friends then coming inside to a warm fire and hot chocolate!

Ice rinks have their purpose, but it's so much more fun skating on natural ice with no boundries or rules....just stay away from the thin ice!. When I was a child, we'd play a game like hockey, but with a football and sticks.....but we had 4 goals, one on each side of the playing field. Our playing field was about 5 acres on a local lake. We'd play for hours, even after it got dark. We'd have a lot of banged up shins, but we were in great shape.
