Confidence vs Cockiness
Confidence vs Cockiness People often confuse confidence with cockiness, but the couldn’t be more different. Confidence is quiet and a natural expression of ability, expertise, and self-regard. Cocky and conceited people tend t.o take a position and totally disregard differing opinions or of view. They know they're right--and they want (actually, they need ) you know it, too. Confident people don't mind being proved wrong. They feel finding out what is right is a lot more important than being right. And when they're wrong, they're secure enough to back down graciously. Confident people don't need the glory; they know what they've achieved. Confident people don't need approval from others because their validation comes from within. Confident people aren't afraid t.o ask for help. Confident people aren't afraid t.o sometimes look silly and being in situations where they aren't at their best. People envy confidence but often despise cockiness. |

An elegant and perfect contrasting of an important distinction. I would only add that in addition to acknowledgement, confident people are not reticent to (when appropriate) apologize for their mistakes. The power of a sincere apology to reduce anxiety and stress often appears to be a closely-guarded secret.

may i add something else, Confident people will admit when wrong or do wrong , where Cocky people are too proud to say, i'm sorry.

I crossed the river once, with confidence. I was optimistic that the ice was thick enough. It was... until it wasn't - no biggy - I still managed to get across. I only sunk up to my knees. A really fine line between the two - I think I probably had a tendency when I was younger to be cockier but as I have aged and am hopefully wiser I exude more confidence. But then again, confidence, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder

Thank you for stopping by and offering your perspective. One of the differences between intelligence and knowledge is also in how they are applied /demonstrated.

Confidence is something that I struggle with on occasion. I am mostly thinking of the times when I do photography for people. Art is subjective and that can be tough on ones confidence (or maybe ego?) But that being said, I agree with your post! It's being ready to accept when you are wrong.

Confidence is knowing your capabilities, limits, being able to recognized your mistakes, as well as apologize for them, if the situation calls for it. Happy Monday! In Luv, Lite, Laffter ...
