insomnia

So, I used to have really bad insomnia. During High school is when it started up. Part of it was I really didn't have the time or desire to sleep in the first place. Then when i went (forced) to college my insomnia became a full blown medical deal. The doctor I was going to wouldn't prescribe anything because I was a college student and I was "abusing" alcohol. I mean what college doesn't "abuse" alcohol while they are going to school 18 hours a week and pretty much NOTHING else. After I left school to help out with some family issues/problems, the insomnia seemed to come with me. At first I thought it had to do with the extra curricular activities i was doing as well as going to all my classes and such. But after being home for more than a year and having a steady job my insomnia wasn't getting any better. Actually it only got progressively worse as time went on. It got to the point where sleeping about 2 hours a night was a long sleep for me. I wanted to go to a doctor and try to get something, but the stubbornness in me got the better of me and I decided against it. After about 3 more years and going to "shrink" to talk about family stuff for my dad, I finally started to get over the insomnia and was able to get sleep and relaxation. Then after awhile it came back again in full force. Only this time I really started to feel the effects physically. I was working three jobs, if you're going to be up why not, trying to wear my body down to sleep. And boy did I, I finally ended up passing out before heading out to work one morning and was let go from two of the jobs for no call no showing for two days. I couldn't believe I had slept two days it was amazing, losing the jobs sucked, but I felt even better and that was the best part. I didn't have a problem with my insomnia like that for several years But now out of the blue my insomnia has started to act up again. Now it never really fully went away but here lately I have gotten back to old habits of sleeping 2-3 hours then being wired all day. I never really have any problems getting up, and I don't really feel tired. But, it does bother me after extended periods of sleeplessness where the mind starts to play tricks on you. That and my roommates have noticed my cleaning habits have gotten better, since I don't really have anything else to do. I just need to figure out a better way to sleep without just laying in bed trying to force my body to shut down and relax. Well off to try to get some sleep before I have to work.

Find someone to keep you company in bed. They might be able to tire you out. That and I find that if I sleep with someone else in the bed, I snuggle and sleep better. Just my two cents. And if you need a volunteer.....
