Given that I suspect the site censors blog posts more than comments to blog posts, below is what was reported on The Telegraph's website earlier today. If you go this website you can check whether your personal details have been hacked. --- Massive hack on sex hook-up website Affairlook exposes details of 412 million people Information collected over 20 years has been leaked Cara McGoogan 14 November 2016 2:00pm The personal details of millions of British people who signed up to an adult-themed dating network in the past 20 years have been exposed in one of the largest ever data breaches. The email addresses and passwords of 412 million people have been leaked after the meetup website Affairlook was hacked. At least 5.2 million UK email address were stolen in the breach, which also included the date of last visit, browser information, some purchasing patterns. Affairlook describes itself as "one of the world's largest sex hookup" websites, with more than 40 million active users. The hack, against its parent company Friend Finder Networks, also involved data from Cams.com, a live video sex site, and Penthouse.com, an internet porn site that was sold in February. The attack, discovered by hack monitoring site Leaked Source, occurred in October and is one of the biggest on record, following closely behind Yahoo, which recently reported the loss of half a billion users’ details. It eclipses last year’s Ashley Madison hack, in which the personal information and sexual preferences of 37 million people were exposed. It is not clear who is behind the breach of Friend Finder Networks, a California-based company. Weak and outdated website security allowed cyber criminals to access the Affairlook information, Leaked Source said. The passwords and usernames were stored in a way that is easily decoded, meaning 99 per cent of those stolen were legible to the hackers. "Passwords were stored by Friend Finder Networks either in plan visible format or SHA1 hashed. Neither method is considered secure by any stretch of the imagination," said Leaked Source. The stolen data included the details of 15 million accounts that had been deleted by the users but remained on the company's servers. Friend Finder Networks, which lost the login details, date of birth and sexual preferences of almost 4 million users in 2015, would not confirm the breach, but said it had found vulnerabilities in its site, according to ZD Net. "Over the past several weeks, Friend Finder has received a number of reports regarding potential security vulnerabilities," said Diana Ballou, the company's vice president. "Immediately upon learning this information, we took several steps to review the situation and bring in the right external partners to support our investigation. While a number of these claims proved to be false extortion attempts, we did identify and fix a vulnerability." Experts warned that companies need to do more to make sure their customers' personal details are kept safe. "Companies still tend to underestimate the risks related to web applications, and consequently put their customers at huge risk," said Ilia Kolochenko, chief executive of High-Tech Bridge. "With this breach of 400 million accounts we should expect a domino effect of smaller data breaches with password reuse and spear-phishing."

It is a difficult job to keep any site from being hacked but have you heard the trend is to buy insurance for these types of hacks. Which is likely to mean why spend the money on keeping the site secure when you can just pay the insurance company to fix it after the fact and if you the consumer get your accounts robbed well there is the coverage for that to through your credit card company. As for the exposure of personal information well it may not really matter to many anyway, but for some it could be cause to be fired from your job or very embarrassing to say the least. But the fact remains internet security is a tough wall to build and maintain. Vive La Difference

It's like they pick and choose what they want to take down, and as we all have the right of freedom of speech they shouldn't remove anything. Unless it violates the TOU's of the site. I hope this remains..

I'm tempted to say: What else is new? Remember last hacking incident (last, that we know of) when site swore up and down that everything was under control and shut everyone up for even mentioning the breach? Well, site obviously didn't do anything to provide reasonable security to member account information, so it happened again. All this wonderful site ever does is gagging us by denying/ deleting posts and banning members who dare to express displeasure. It's a good thing my password here is unlike any of my others. .. Might be a good idea to change it anyway. Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

As far as I'm concerned there is one fundamental rule for this site: Even though you have to give personal details, particularly to pay with a credit card for membership, etc., you must change those details as soon as the payment has been processed. ARF might think they have my details but the name is Mr Smith, the DoB is incorrect (not wildly, just not mine), the credit card number is random, the email address they have is just fullon4u at a well known free email provider What's more, by changing your details they can't do the "accidental" auto-renew trick
