WHAT I’M THANKFUL FOR

WHAT I’M THANKFUL FOR

This post is my contribution to the twenty-fourth virtual symposium organised by the new but still supreme cult leaderess, pocogato12. Please visit the Virtual Symposium Group's Participants List for 24th Virtual Symposium Topic: What We are Thankful For post to read other contributions to the 'What Are We Thankful For' virtual symposium.

Thanksgiving means nothing to me! But I’m thankful for this site in providing a platform (I hate that word) for us to keep in touch with each other that would not probably otherwise happen.

There are two blogland events where bloggers are invited to come together to address a common topic. One is Half Nekkid Wednesday where bloggers, well almost all bloggers, post half-naked images of themselves on a certain theme - see HNW Bloggers. The other is the virtual symposia where bloggers are invited to write words on a certain theme.

Though one is largely about images and another is largely about words, what both have in common is solidarity. Both forge solidarity between bloggers in allowing us to connect with each other by giving a space to promote our wares to a supportive audience.

While as bloggers we may count our viewings, our watchers, our comments and our position in the assortment of league tables that the site offers, these two blogland events allow us to cooperate and see what others do and, moreover, to see what others who perhaps you wouldn’t normally see do.

While Half Nekkid Wednesday is an established tradition in blogland, the virtual symposia is having a hard time. I’m pleading to those who enjoyed the virtual symposia or who are interested in contributing to the virtual symposia to join the Virtual Symposium Group.

How competitive and cooperative are you?

I’m quite competitive but I’m far more cooperative than competitive. Under competitive conditions, only a few can win; but under cooperative conditions we can all win.

How competitive and cooperative are you?
I’m quite competitive where competition is part of the game. This is especially true in the sport I've participated in for years - auto racing. In spite of what the outward appearances may be auto racing is a team sport. Aside from the driver there are crew members (often unpaid), who all need to work together in a cooperative manor - to win races.

In my work and personal lives being cooperative is a must and makes things a lot nicer to deal with.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Spunky, I'm not big on competition. We all like to win, and I do too, but I love to see other people win. It touches my heart to see someone overcome adversity and succeed. Even more, it touches me to see a group of people who are committed to one another cooperate to achieve something of value. We're stronger together. Our weakest links are pride and greed. Solidarność!

This is a beautiful post, my friend.

It's great to see that the Symposium is continuing even if I don't contribute very often.

I'm not competitive at all. Perhaps, that is why I don't like sports. But I'm very big on cooperation and communication.

I'd like to see Virtual Symposia thrive because, just as HNW events, they bring bloggers' community together in most positive way.

Thank you for this post, Spunky! Great contribution to symposium.

I enjoy the challenge of HNW and, although I do follow the symposium posts I've never made a full contribution.

Hmmm... I object to enforced cheerfulness as a matter of principle so I'm not inclined to join in with either HNW or the symposium.

What's more, I've been blogging long enough to remember some of the reasons why concerted efforts were made to increase the profile of some bloggers.... and inclusivity was NOT one of them. There's a reason why Sandy (excuse my French!) was never involved in either HNW or the symposium...

And in truth, I have Spartan ethics when it comes to blogging. I believe that you can post any photos of yourself you like and shouldn't need weekly coercion. And the symposium smacks of "Couldn't think of anything interesting to write myself". Adults shouldn't need encouragement.

Do what you want, when you want, for your own reasons. And bollocks to everyone else!

I'm really pleased you see auto-racing as a team sport, because the drivers would be nothing without the efforts of those behind the scenes. But that's true for life generally!
