NAKED IN HULL

NAKED IN HULL   Above is a group of people getting naked in Hull, a Northern English city. Hull is one of those end-of-the-line places that you don’t pass through but you have to go to. Despite being UK’s City of Culture next year, Hull hasn’t got a lot going for it, though it was the birthplace of William Wilberforce who campaigned for the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. Hull is one of the most depressing cities I’ve visited along with Wolverhampton in the English Midlands and Vienna in Austria. Wolverhampton is a rundown city overshadowed by Birmingham; and Vienna is just too twee, everything works! The American photographer Spencer Tunick - see below - organised the gathering of naked people in Hull. He painted the naked people blue to reflect the North Sea that the city overlooks. Spencer Tunick specialises in getting lots of naked people together in the name of art, or more specifically installation art. Below are some of his installation artworks. I think I could be an artist if it meant lots of close contact with naked people! What’s the worst city that you’ve visited? Do you regard a gathering of naked people as art? Would you volunteer to be in one of Spencer Tunick’s artworks? I like Spencer Tunick’s work, not least because it reassures me that some people still have pubic hair! His artwork allows people of all ages, shapes and sizes to shed their inhibitions, get together, commune, reclaim their surroundings and make an exhibition of themselves. I would definitely volunteer to be installed in Spencer Tunick’s artwork if he was ever to visit Nottingham. If I can’t be footnote in history, I’ll settle for being immortalised in art!         |

What’s the worst city that you’ve visited? I have a list: Terre Haute, Indiana- Amarillo, Texas- that's enough. There isn't enough space here. Do you regard a gathering of naked people as art? What’s the worst city that you’ve visited? Not telling, sorry. Don't want to offend anyone. By the way, I loved Vienna, Austria. I was there many years ago on New Year's and fell in love with the city. Do you regard a gathering of naked people as art? Not any gathering, of course. But Spencer Tunick's are art. Would you volunteer to be in one of Spencer Tunick’s artworks? Only if it involves melted chocolate! Then, I'm game. I saw the photos of the people painted blue, once they had all laid down. It looked like oceans, and all the people were a slightly different hue of blue. I found it quite beautiful. I am very happy that you curated so many of his photos together. I love this post! Off the top of my head, I'd say Cave Creek, Arizona is the worst city I've been to. It is like Phoenix's unwanted stepchild. Gathering of naked people is art and beyond artistic expression..  I might volunteer. I never say never.

Birmingham is the worst city I've ever visited....nearly got myself killed driving on Spaghetti Junction. Yes I quite like his art but I wouldn't hang it on the sitting room wall. Don't think I could be persuaded to take part though.  ~~Anais Nin~~

Worst city in the world? Without a shadow of a doubt it's Winnipeg. The women there are unbelievably ugly. With no exceptions  It even gets a special mention in Wikipedia!

What’s the worst city that you’ve visited? New Orleans, sorry, but it was dirty and smelly and scary, but some of was quite interesting. I didn't really enjoy the food, probably went to the wrong sort of places. Didn't even manage to get to the Cafe Du Monde for beignets. I must be a shite tourist. It was really just a stop over so there wasn't much time. Do you regard a gathering of naked people as art? I suppose it is, anyway much more so than Damien Hirst's dead animals. Would you volunteer to be in one of Spencer Tunick’s artworks? I have learnt to never say never... so you see Hugh... you never know where I may turn up! You have already been immortalized in art... you may one day find yourself or a bit of you immortalized in one of my blog posts again, if I I could just get to it. I've been photo-shopping your image again. I think I may just change the name of the series to, Crazy for Hugh, as long as you don't mind me shamelessly using you this way!
