A UNITED KINGDOM?

It’s all kicking off in Britain today. Yesterday Britain voted to leave the European Union. Today Prime Minister David Cameron announced his resignation, Labour MPs have tabled a vote of no confidence in their leader Jeremy Corbyn, the SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that a second referendum on Scottish independence is on the table, the value of sterling against the dollar has fallen by 10 per cent, the stock market has crashed and the Bank of England is on standby with £250 billion to bail out the economy.

I am totally stunned about the referendum result. Totally stunned, not even the thought of an orgy tonight can rescue my mood! I am a committed Europhile.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a very divided country. With a relatively high turnout for the referendum, 52 per cent of those who voted wanted out with 48 per cent wanting in.

In yesterday’s referendum, London. Scotland and Northern Ireland voted to remain in the European Union, and Wales and England outside London voted to leave the European Union. Younger people voted overwhelmingly to remain in the European Union, and older people voted largely to leave the European Union. The political and economic elite largely wanted Britain to stay in the European Union, but voters gave the Establishment a good kicking.

There are lots of reasons why Britain voted to leave. But David Cameron ignored the golden law of politics which is to never call an election unless you’re sure of winning! Cameron called a referendum mainly as a way to stem the flow of support from the Conservative Party to the UK Independence Party. It was an act of domestic politics, a calculation that spectacularly went wrong for the Prime Minister.

European leaders are furious with Cameron for his gamble; Barack Obama has yet to vent his anger at the hapless Prime Minister! Donald Trump welcomed Britain’s decision and no doubt Vladimir Putin is smiling at the referendum result. If your friends want you to remain and enemies want you to leave, why did so many people vote out?

My view, for what it’s worth, is that Britain is still suffering from post-imperial delusions of grandeur! When the European Union was first formed in the 1950s, Britain refused to join with one of its politicians claiming that "We don’t need you; you need us"! Within ten years, Britain changed its mind and applied to join the European Union but its application was vetoed twice by the French who felt that Britain would be a Trojan for America in Europe! In 1973 and after much American pressure on European leaders, Britain was allowed to join the European Union, but now after nearly 50 years Britain has changed its mind.

I’m in total shock; I don’t think I will perform well at tonight’s orgy! Does anyone want to take my place?

From what I saw today spunky on the news, our dollar has already gone down. Markets did as well. We might have kept this high on the Dow Jones but that went down. What impact will it have on the rest of world with this move for you guys?
I am totally stunned about the referendum result as well. PS I am sure you will perform well at the orgy tonight. Something will caught your eye.. We will just have to wait and see what happens now. hugsssssssss V

Cameron initially said he wouldn't resign whatever the outcome. I think he had no choice in the end.

Not only is the United Kingdom affected, it has affected Canada already. I am also shocked at the outcome, just as I am shocked by our country's new leader and our provincial governments new party.
Now I have a fear of what will happen in the USA, come November. If Trump is elected, I think the whole world is fucked!

Thanks. As an uninformed American I learned something today about the UK and the EU. My question is "Did that girl on the far right break that cock in half?" Take care and be safe. Ciao.

I saw the headlines as the results were coming out before I went to bed. I was surprised.

This morning my news-feed is full of stories about how the old just did something that the young didn't want and will impact them more.

Bummer about Cameron. Oops.

I love the Mexican flags going up around Trump's golf course.

I agree with your assessment. I was surprised mightily at the vote- I was sure common sense would prevail in the end.

It goes from bad to worse. I've heard the name Boris Johnson being mentioned as Prime Minister. amp;

I would not comment on another countries politics. But it seem that as usual, the weak ones are panicking in the financial world. It seems, that you have to be careful what you vote for.

For what its worth Spunky....and don't forget I am a Brit.....it is well past time that a certain element in the country realised that Queen Victoria has been dead over 120 years, the Empire is as dead as the Dodo, Britain did NOT win the war alone and no longer rules the waves. I am seriously thinking of surrendering my British passport and applying for an Irish one.

There will always be a back door into Ireland if you need it....there is no way we could patrol a frontier between N. Ireland and the South....never managed in the past and won't in the future.

On a serious note....this poses huge problems for Ireland.

I'm thinking that Boris Johnson is a long lost brother of Trump.

I'm surprised... I thought it would probably go the other way. I wonder if a lot people chose to stay home and not vote thinking it would be an easy win for the "stay in" crowd?

I was wondering why you all didn't demand a renegotiation of terms for the EU. If it's true that France and other countries are thinking on doing the same thing maybe changing the terms and conditions is what is needed.

If it starts a breakup of the super banks it will be good for the people, though it may not make the banker people happy.

I am convinced that the outcome of a referendum on leaving the EU in France could lead to the same result. I hope the exit conditions will be negotiated for intelligamment that the UK does not suffer too much.
I like you a convinced European and I hope that happens will modify the European institutions to make them closer to European.
For me, you remain fully fledged European and I'm sad since yesterday. This does not make me want to take your place to participate in this great orgy. But thank you for your proposal Spunky.
A French kiss for you all.

I also believe the EU was a leaky sieve when it comes to border security....and because of this most people in England want it plugged. Look at all the terrorist infiltrating all EU countries. For safety sake, I think it was the right choice....to break from EU and their convoluted and non existent border security.

Devastated. Whatever happens, the only outcome for Scotland is independence. Shocking, appalling, terrifying in many respects but this time I will support it. I would rather live in a small Scotland with an impossibly uncertain future with traditional left of centre values at its heart than live in a small-minded UK with an impossibly uncertain future with misguided right wing extremist values at its heart.

Farage and his cohorts created the mess, Cameron enabled it, Gove and Johnson encouraged it, all of them with nothing more than their own political ambitions in mind. Their self-seeking lies are beginning to unravel, along with the rest of the country. If ever the use of the 'c' word was justified it would be in the context of those four evil cunts! How much will any of those four evil cunts truly suffer as a result of their political games? Not a fucking jot!

Angry, desperate, and above all else, ashamed that I live in a country that allowed itself to be aligned with hate, fear, suspicion and self interest. This is what we've let those people do to us.

Pensions - fucked!
UK Union - fucked!
NHS - fucked!
Public Services - fucked!
External Immigration Controls - fucked!
Prospects for Youth - fucked!
Regional Grant Funding - fucked!
Arts Funding - fucked!
Working Classes - fucked!
Poor, Homeless, Disabled - fucked!
Refugees - fucked!
the list is endless...........

This is not an opportunity, this is carefully crafted un-picking of our community, as in, the values post WWII UK was built on - strength, stoicism, community, generosity, inclusiveness, tolerance, optimisim. We have allowed those fuckers to steal from us what made our country great!

Sorry for the rant, but it seems appropriate against the background of the last several days of utter turmoil, and the prospect of many years of wholly un-necessary turmoil to follow.

If you need a sponsor for your Scottish passport application just let me know............!

Surprisingly Boris Johnson today ruled himself out for standing as Conservative Party leader. His Brexit colleague, Michael Gove, stabbed him in the back saying he wasn't capable of leading the Conservative Party. So Gove is standing despite promising he never would.
My money is on Margaret Thatcher, sorry Theresa May, to be the next Tory Party leader and Prime Minister.
