HAPPY DEATHDAY MA’AM!

Above is the German magazine Der Spiegel’s front cover published to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday.

Wars have been fought for less! I don’t know whether this is the German sense of humour at play or whether the magazine’s staff were blissfully unaware of how its headline may be interpreted!

The Queen’s birthday falls on 21 April and we’ve had blanket coverage in the mass media of her birthday celebrations all week. Even the US President, Barack Obama, found time to wish happy birthday to the Queen when he visited the country to tell us not to leave the European Union!

The Queen has two birthdays - her real April birthday and her official birthday that’s usually celebrated later on a day in May or June decided by each Commonwealth country. Not even Jesus had two births!

Here in the UK, the Queen’s official birthday is marked by the Trooping the Colour on Guards Parade in London - see last photo below. But this year there will also be extra celebrations to mark her 90th birthday.

In mid-May, The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration takes place in the grounds of Windsor Castle, one of her many residences. Tickets cost £150 and are now all sold; £1.5 million has been raised in ticket sales.

The company Sports & Entertainment Ltd are organising these birthday celebrations. Peter Phillips, one of the Queen’s grandsons, is the director of this company. Talk about keeping it in the family!

There's also the Clean for the Queen campaign, "an anti-litter campaign to clean up the UK in time for Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday". Many royalists have now picked up litter in all sorts of places that the Queen will never visit!

Did you wish the Queen a happy birthday?
Would you pay £150 to attend the Queen's birthday party?

The Queen didn't receive any birthday greetings from me! Her birthday took over the news here; just think what’ll happen when she dies, and no doubt there'll be a resurrection for a re-run!

I’ve been told that the Queen is wearing purple to commemorate the death of her adopted , Prince!

Did you wish the Queen a happy birthday?
Well, not personally, no. I mean, I didn't send her a card or anything. But I don't see any reason not to want her to have a pleasant birthday. She isn't George the Third after all and seems to know her place.

Would you pay £159 to attend the Queen's birthday party?
Would Glenda Jackson be there? I'm fond of Glenda Jackson. I suspect MP Jackson has been left off the party list. But I probably wouldn't pay a hundred fifty nine pounds for the chance to rub elbows with her.

NOW your photos are back up!

I'm not part of the "Off with her head crowd!" The are plenty of public figures whose executions would be...entertaining, but your queen is not among them. Anyway, we have so many prime candidates for that honor right here in the good ole USA that we really ought to see to cleaning our own house before we go meddling with yours.

I wouldn't pay to go to the party.....I am very uncomfortable in crowds....so no thanks.

Did you wish the Queen a happy birthday? No but I do hope she had a happy birthday.

Would you pay £150 to attend the Queen's birthday party? No and I wouldn't want to be there.

"The Queen didn't receive any birthday greetings from me! Her birthday took over the news here; just think what’ll happen when she dies, and no doubt there'll be a resurrection for a re-run!" I bet there is a prince who will be celebrating when she dies, though he may keep it in private.

I did not wish the queen a happy birthday. She's not in any of my networks.

I do have a minimal fascination with those who go gaga for anything "Royal". .. It is a part of culture.

I heard the great-grandson got to stay up late so he could meet Obama.

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN! .. Not that I care, but I cheer on every day for those who have lived so long.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

I had been wondering how you would mark the occasion. I am not big on the Royals but I do not wish ill will either. That she has made it 90 is impressive. Must be in the genes and the fantastic care she receives. I do wonder, how long will Charles live?
It dominated our news here also...for about 30 minutes.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I think a naked Glenda Jackson may be there!
If you lived here and lived to 100 years of age, you'd get a birthday card from the Queen!

As you know I'm no Royalist and the only way to get rid of the monarchy for good is the Russian revolution forest solution, I do admit that the Queen does a brilliant job as head of state, though she is very well paid for her efforts!

Well I'm sure "Die Queen" deserves all the best wishes of the day or days. Now I have a small correction to make to your post. Jesus has three birthdays. Most Christians celebrate on December 25th. Orthodox Christians celebrate His birth on January 7th. In Armenia however, Apostolic Christians celebrate on January 6th. Now you know Hugh, please make a note of it Hugh.

Meine Tante Helena trug eine auffallende ahnlichkeit mit Queen Elizabeth. Ihr Spitzname war Queeny.
Perhaps your Aunt was the Queen; the Royal Family's ancestry is very internatonal!

I think it's quite a con that people have to pay to go to her birthday party. Even royalty-sponsored charities have to pay though they have been allowed to sell their tickets for a profit!

I've never seen the Queen. The only member of the Royalty I've seen is Princess Anne, who gave me a degree certificate at my graduation.

A very big cake has been baked for the Queen's birthday, and she wants everyone to have a slice!
