"MR BEST, WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?"  George Best was one of the best ever football players in the world, along with Ferenc Puskás, Eusébio, Alfredo Di Stéfano, Pelé, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The former Brazilian footballer Pelé claimed that George Best "was the greatest player in the world". Dubbed 'El Beatle', he was the first celebrity footballer and arguably the first celebrity sportsperson in this country. The footballer played for Manchester United and Northern Ireland. He was a key player in Manchester United’s 1968 European Cup success. Towards the end of his career, George Best played for four American clubs, Los Angeles Aztecs, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, San Jose Earthquakes and Detroit Express. As well as being an alcoholic that led to his death in 2005, George Best was known as a womaniser. He admitted that he had sex with seven women in 24 hours while a footballer in Manchester. The footballer once said: "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered." Rumour has it that George Best dated seven Miss Worlds, though in his autobiography The Good, the Bad and the Bubbly, he claimed he had only bedded four Miss Worlds. He also said: "I used to go missing a lot ... Miss Canada, Miss United Kingdom, Miss World". While staying in a luxury hotel, a waiter delivered champagne to George Best's bedroom to find the current Miss World in his bed and surrounded by lots of casino winnings. The waiter famously asked him: "Mr Best, where did it all go wrong?" Here are three other quips from George Best: • "I’ve stopped drinking, but only while I’m asleep." • "In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol - it was the worst twenty minutes of my life." • "If I had to choose between dribbling past five players and scoring from forty yards at Anfield or shagging Miss World, it’d be hard choice. Did it all go wrong for George Best? No! Hell no! How are you with lots of money? Happy! Pleased! About like you and George I guess. I didn't go missing that much, but I did shag Miss Three Rivers, Michigan regularly. Probably only because you and George did not notice her first. He was a brilliant footballer and came to fame in a time when youngsters with real talent were allowed to perform for their clubs but the clubs neglected to look after them off the pitch. He came from a working class background at a very young age it's no wonder he couldn't handle it. Fame and money too young were where it all went wrong. I'm pretty good with money rarely buying anything I don't need but I am known to be a soft touch where the grandkids are concerned.  ~~Anais Nin~~

Although George Best played for the 'enemy' (I'm a City supporter, remember), you couldn't take your eyes off of him on the pitch. He was the first real footballing superstar in Britain. A legend in a life-time full of fame and fortune but sadly no fairy-tale ending. I've never had lots of money. I do make sure I've enough to pay the bills but it would be nice to get a windfall.

Did it all go wrong for George Best? Because of his multiple indulgences, he died too soon. But.. he enjoyed his life and lived it the way he wanted. How are you with lots of money? I'm yet to find out. Did it all go wrong for George Best? Yes it did. Living to excess isn't good for us. He killed his liver with drink and cheated death when he received another liver, depriving someone else of the gift. Since then the UK has taken measures to identify people who are not likely to give up alcohol making them ineligible as a transplant recipient. George Best was fitted with an implant to release a drug that left his body unable to process alcohol. Drinking with the implant in place leads to a rise in toxins in the blood known as aldehydes that can lead to violent convulsions, palpitations and changes in blood pressure. Unfortunately the effects of the implant last only six month unless it is replaced with a new one. That isn't what killed him though. It was a kidney infection caused by the immunosuppressive drugs he was taking. How are you with lots of money? I never had lots of money so I've always been very careful with it. Now I have a little money and I spend it lots! I may have spent more money in the past few months than I have in half my life. Oh and by the way, being green does wonders for you. You haven't changed a bit since your last post in 2012. What ever you are doing works, keep it up!
