FRIENDS WITH MY BENEFITS This post is my contribution to the sixteenth virtual symposium superbly organised by the highly esteemed cult leader humorlife. 'Friends with benefits' isn’t a term I generally use. I understand what it means or at least I think I do. But to me the term fails to capture the dynamics of a relationship and relies solely on sex to define a relationship. Though possibly introduced to describe the fuzziness between a non-sexual friendship and a sexual relationship, the term seems only to confuse things more. Surely all good friendships have benefits, whether sexual or not; and surely all good relationships are based on friendship. At risk of going off-topic and risking the wrath of cult members, I’m going to write about friends trying to take other friends' benefits. There have been at least three occasions where good friends of mine have made a move on my girlfriends. I only found out because my girlfriends told me; undoubtedly there have been many more occasions which I wasn’t told about! Friends are unlikely to tell you they’ve propositioned your partner unless they want to get their side of the story before your partner dishes the dirt. Partners may not tell you because they may not be believed or even worry about your reaction. On each of the three occasions when one of my friends tried it on with my girlfriend, I decided not to react. I thanked my girlfriends for telling me and decided not to confront my friends about the incidents. One of those friends is still my best friend! If I confronted my friends who’ve made a pass at my girlfriends, I probably wouldn’t have any friends left! Also I like to take my friend’s passes as a compliment of my taste in girlfriends! Like everyone I have a few morals, but one thing I don’t like doing is taking the moral high ground. It's always a long way down to fall! I find taking the moral low ground is often the best place to stand! Have any of your friends ever tried it on with your partner? If so, what did you do? Have you ever tried it on with any of your friends’ partners? And like everyone, I've had my moral lapses. On one drunken occasion, I ended up having sex with my then best friend’s girlfriend. On waking up the next morning, I felt terrible, but I was feeling bad only because there was a chance of my friend finding out. I didn’t tell my friend about what I did and, as it happened, his girlfriend didn’t tell him what she did! I decided it wasn’t worth checking whether she was going to tell him or not, because I was unlikely to influence her decision and she arguably had more to lose than me! For a few days after the dirty deed I was wracked with guilt whenever I saw my friend but, after a short while, it was business as usual!        |

Have any of your friends ever tried it on with your partner? Yes. If so, what did you do? I laughed at him- he tried and failed. It was a source of great amusement for some time after. Have you ever tried it on with any of your friends’ partners? Yes- same friend. I succeeded where he failed. He didn't laugh. Actually, I don't recall him laughing either time. Have any of my friends tried to make a move on a girlfriend? Nope... but my bestfriend and roommate did hit it with someone I had eyes for who was staying with us. He told me with hours. Still friends, and we're in each other's wedding parties. Later that same year, a situation came up with a girl he was just beginning to see. I can be rather ridge when it come to crossing line, and I did not cross it. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

Yes, and "I plead the fifth". I've had it range from everything from a roommate casually telling me "You know how you passed out last night? .. Well your lady wanted more, so naturally I gave it to her." (That was good to know.) to running away with other's partners. --- What can I say? I've led a messy life.  Sometimes there are boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. .. That doesn't mean they don't get crossed anyways.   And in my defense..... "They" always started it!

I wouldn't care if one of my friends slept with my boyfriend because if he was going to sleep with one of them and try to hide it from me, then it most likely isn't a healthy relationship to begin with. I say "try" because most cheaters that aren't up front want to get caught. Yes...while I was married a long time ago, my friend became so blotto drunk that my wife and I carried him to his apartment and put him in him to bed. While we were doing this, he tells my wife,"I alway wanted to kiss you." He passed out. Of course he did not remember! LOL! Have you ever tried it on with any of your friends’ partners? You've been my friend here from the start, you've never failed to read a post of mine or comment (if so I can't recall). I hope we remain friends for a long time, with or without benefits, although I've already benefited from "knowing" you. You have been a very good friend to me too!
