NICE 'N' SLEAZY     Last week I put up my Christmas tree or, to be more precise, I supervised two women putting up my Christmas tree. I think they did a good job so I gave them both a gold star for their efforts. We also dressed another Christmas tree to donate to the nearby St Mary’s Church in Melton Mowbray. Every year this church organises a Christmas tree festival - people give dressed Christmas trees to the church, which then charges an admission fee for visitors wanting to see the trees. After the festival has ended, the church gives the Christmas trees to local care homes for the elderly. For this year, a record-breaking 1,254 Christmas trees were exhibited in St Mary’s Church. It would have been 1,255 trees if the rector hadn't intervened! On opening the festival, the rector of the church, Reverend Kevin Ashby, said, "I’m absolutely blown away by the response this year." I placed my Christmas tree in the middle of the church. But when he saw my tree, he said, "Nice and sleazy". Given that Nice 'n' Sleazy was a 1978 hit by The Stranglers, I remarked to the rector, "You have an impeccable music taste." "No, I can’t stand The Stranglers", the rector replied, "and I want you to remove this sleazy tree at once." My pussies were not at all happy about their early exit from the festival! My Christmas tree isn’t real and it’s topped by Santa Claus, aka lok4fun500 who promised to deliver more presents for me on Christmas Eve if I put Santa on top! Normally I put a fairy on the top of my Christmas tree. For the Christmas tree I donated to the church’s Christmas tree festival, a pussy was the crowning display of the tree! I don’t think the rector likes pussy!       |

Too much going on for decorations this year. I went all out last year. I regret it now, but I won't when it's the normal time to put it all away...

I don't know as I will put the Christmas tree up this year or not as it doesn't look like my Daughter will be back for Christmas at this point. But it is an artificial tree with an Angel on top and lots of lights and decorations. I always liked putting the tree up and decorating it with the kids but I'm not likely to do it for myself by myself. Vive La Difference

I have a real tree with Father Christmas on top. This year, we added a cat...he seems to enjoy hiding behind the tree, not in it.

I don't really feel in much of a Christmassy mood. We haven't a tree. My sisters loved and still love Christmas. When we were all still at home they'd go all out decorating. We'd often have a real tree. I have the tree topper from our childhood. It is a vintage Noma brand angel from the 1940s, she is much older than I am and still lights.
