DISASTER FIRST DATES This post is my contribution to the fourteenth virtual symposium on brilliantly organised by the esteemed cult leader humorlife. I can’t remember my first date, but it definitely wasn’t a good one as I’ve never eaten a date since. Sorry, it had to be said! Like many people, I’ve had my fair share of disaster first dates. There are three dates I want to recount, all before the age of online dating. First was a date with someone whom I’d never met before. We agreed to meet in a small bar for a drink. I made sure I arrived early to get a table. When a woman resembling her description walked into the bar, I stood up to greet her. It was the woman, whose name I now can’t remember. After buying her drink, we sat down to talk. Prior to this blind date, I did give some thought about topics of conversation. I didn’t want to talk about the weather! I started a conversation about cinema, which I thought would be an interesting but neutral topic of conversation. I asked her what films she liked. After answering, she then unsurprisingly asked what films I liked watching. I replied that I enjoyed Quentin Tarantino's films, especially Pulp Fiction. She asked why I liked his films. I said that I like the stylised gratuitous violence, all set to music. She immediately got up, grabbed her coat and walked out of the bar! The second disaster date involved a woman whom I met at a party when I was in my early twenties. At the time, as it was quite dark, I thought the woman was roughly my age. However, when we later met up for our first date, it was very apparent that she was about twice my age. And not only that, it turned out that she was the mother of my best friend’s girlfriend. It just didn’t feel right, but we still had sex! My third disaster date wasn’t strictly a first date as she was my first girlfriend whom I kept in touch with after she dumped me. After a couple of years of being friends, I asked her whether she wanted to stay at the Savoy, a luxury hotel in London. She agreed to my suggestion and my hopes of a reunion were thus kindled. Pretentiously I decided to book into the hotel under an alias. At the time Maurice Webber was my alter-ego, so it was Maurice Webber who was to try and seduce my ex-girlfriend. My not-so-cunning plan failed at the first hurdle. On being asked to register by the hotel receptionist, I completed the registration card but my signature was of my real name and not my assumed name. My ex-girlfriend saw the mistake and prompted me to look at the registration card. On seeing my mistake, and in a very embarrassed flash, I just scrumpled up the card and stuffed it in my suit pocket. The hotel receptionist clearly thought I was strange and, even worse, my ex-girlfriend thought I was really stupid. This first date was also a last date! What’s been your worst first date? Do you have sex on the first date? My best first dates have always either ended up with sex or weren’t last dates! PS. The road leading to the Savoy hotel is the only public road in Britain where motor vehicles drive on the right-hand side.         |

What’s been your worst first date? The worst actually turned out the best. I met a her at a rustic restaurant near the Great Lakes in Upstate New York in the winter. The weather was nice when we went in . We chatted and had a few drinks. During the meal, there was a snow burst (a quick snow storm that can drop 3 plus inches of snow in an hour or so). That was followed immediately by Lake effect snow that lasted about 10 hours, dropping 4 inches of snow per hour. We could not leave and were stuck there like the other 30 patrons until mid morning the next day. She showed her true side, very whiny and self center. That was a last date for sure Do you have sex on the first date? Yes, if the date works out

I remember being locked inside of a friend's mom's Chevy Citation and told that we wouldn't be let out until we "French-ed". .. I was 15. She was 14. We both had braces. They became locked together!

What’s been your worst first date? I got fixed up by a friend and his girlfriend. They ambushed me just as I got home from work, tired. We hated each other on sight and it went downhill from there. And she was two inches taller than me and wore five inch platforms. Do you have sex on the first date? Sure...but the girl above- I was so mad at her I wouldn't have fucked her for money. "And not only that, it turned out that she was the mother of my best friend’s girlfriend. It just didn’t feel right, but we still had sex!" This, Mr. Webber, was the correct thing to do. I quite like dates actually.  My worst first date was with someone from this site....it was awful...he was nothing like his photos and was just plain boring.....I received the planned phone call from a friend and made my excuses and left!!!! See, this is why I love men: The mother of your best friend's girlfriend. It just didn't feel right but you still had sex. That's awesome. Thanks for sharing. My blog is about my worst date, so I'll merely point you there if you really want to know - a little hint, way worse than sleeping with someone twice your age which I've done (didn't realize the age difference til afterwards) and is kinda cool! No to sex on the first date. Love the cartoons. Great post!

I really like dates (the fruit) and so much of what you wrote after you presented that image is a blur... No, no, great stories, and well-chosen images to boot. Not sure why you included the story about your friend's mother as a bad date, though: Age shouldn't be something which leans an experience toward bad, and it sounds as though you got over the awkwardness... and as someone who has always enjoyed women who've gotten comfortable in their own skin, that particular experience sounds pretty good to me! The one caution I'd offer for first dates is never to have 'em with a crowd of your potential paramour's friends, or at a party... had one of each during the last few decades, and never again, never again, never again... there has to be opportunity for one-on-one conversation, as well as a chance not to be playing to a crowd. What’s been your worst first date? Nearly all of them have been pretty bad. The very first two were the worst. On the very first date of my life, I'd gone to the toilet, came back into the room and he was naked on his bed, subtle, huh? The second date of my life, I was nineteen and he took me to KFC, dutch treat. Then he took me to his car and pulled out a few penthouse magazines and started to talk about tits, how they are all different. He told me he had masturbated when he thought about me and mine. Is it any wonder I married the very next man I met? Do you have sex on the first date? I think you already know the answer to this one. I don't think any of my first dates even noticed or cared if I HAD eyes. What is it with you guys and tits anyways. My son-in-law recently exclaimed, "Oh tits!" when something had gone wrong.
