MUCH COFFEE-DRINKING BUT LITTLE COFFEE-SHOPPING

I’m back and now recovered from my Amsterdam weekend. In fact, I didn’t need much time to recover as my weekend wasn’t as debauched as I’d hoped!

I did lots of shopping and bought some shoes and clothes. There are so many top branded shops in Amsterdam - Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Gucci, Lacoste, Bulgari, Nike, H & M, Adidas, C & A, Ted Baker, Pepe Jeans, Zara, Levi’s, Timberland, Stone Island, Cartier, Chanel, Diesel, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermès, Hugo Boss, Tiffany & Co to name but a few.

All these shops are concentrated on three city centre streets - Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat, the latter of which was voted the third best shopping street in the world behind Singapore’s Orchard Road and Luxembourg’s Avenue de la Liberté in a recent international survey.

My girlfriend, her grown-up and their partners love to buy and wear branded clothes. I prefer not to wear branded clothes with the exception of Levi’s 501 jeans and I only wear these jeans because they enhance my bulge!

I don’t want to be a walking advert for multinational companies already rich from people buying their exorbitant clothing.

I only went into one coffee shop and just had two drags on a joint rolled by my girlfriend’s . It was his 21st birthday so I wanted to celebrate his manhood in a coffee shop. I took him to my favourite coffee shop, De Tweede Kamer. It’s very small and located well off the beaten path, so no drunken stag parties frequent this little den of vice.

I would have visited more coffee shops, but my girlfriend’s was behaving like a drug-crazed fiend and I didn’t want to encourage his increasingly dope-fuelled lifestyle. He would go to a coffee shop before breakfast, after breakfast, before lunch, after lunch, before dinner, after dinner and before bedtime. And even when not in a coffee shop he was invariably smoking a joint on the streets!

I decided to stay out of the coffee shops and instead go to cafes to drink coffee! I’m planning to return to Amsterdam next year with just my girlfriend.

Do you regularly wear branded clothes?
If so, what are your favourite brands?
How did you celebrate your 21st birthday?

My 21st birthday celebration was a rather staid family meal in a restaurant. I think I had one beer!

Do you regularly wear branded clothes?
The only brand I can think of that I wear regularly is Carhartt, and they're priced too high also. Once it gets the least bit trendy, you can kiss it goodbye. Levi's used to be for working men once upon a time.

If so, what are your favourite brands?
The ones I can find in a secondhand store.

How did you celebrate your 21st birthday?
I don't remember doing it. When I turned nineteen there was an experiment with lowering the drinking age and the voting age so I was robbed of a twentyfirst birthday celebration.

I'd love to have you take me on a tour of Amsterdam!

I believe as you do in not advertising and especially paying for the privilege to do so.

As to my 21st it was too long ago to remember.

Do you regularly wear branded clothes? Not for the last 20+ years, I used to wear Levi's a lot and some branded shirts but have never cared for anything that had names plastered on them in any loud manner.
If so, what are your favorite brands? I did like the Levi's jeans but found I seemed to get rips in them every time I bought a new pair so that and getting married caused me to decide to buy the Wrangler brand at $15.00 a pair, no more tears when they got torn working.
How did you celebrate your 21st birthday? I was on the top of a mountain in Turkey. I don't drink anyway plus the drinking age was 18 when I was 18 so I didn't see 21 as anything special.

I have never been to Amsterdam....wouldn't mind going one day.

I have few Calvin Klein pieces in my wardrobe.

I celebrated my 21st with my first husband, family and friends....and a lot of booze!!!

If so, what are your favourite brands? I don't have any

How did you celebrate your 21st birthday? I went out with my boyfriend at the time to watch a band and have way to many drinks.

Here's a deal, I'll take you on a tour of Amsterdam if you take me on a tour of your woods with Gracie!
I think we'll get on just fine, but there'll be no kissing!

Your 21st doesn't sound too much fun while on patrol. I hope you made up for it with a party later when back home!

How did you celebrate your 21st birthday? Oh don't ask, it will only upset me. I have tried to forget it. My husband forgot MY birthday, but remembered his mom's birthday. She and I were both born on April 15th.

Welcome back home. How paternal of you to model good behaviour (mostly) whilst away.
I used to wear Clarks shoes when I was little.
I was a paragon of adult virtue in Amsterdam!
