SAPIOSEXUALS, MOROPHILIACS AND HOMER SIMPSON

This post is my contribution to the thirteenth virtual symposium organised by the esteemed cult leader humorlife. Contributions to the 'Sapiosexuality' virtual symposium can be found at Participants In The Thirteenth Virtual Symposium Sapiosexuality Intersection Of Smarts And Sex.

Yet again I’ve had problems writing a post for the cult, sorry the virtual symposium, on the topic of sapiosexuality this time. I must be stupid! The main problem is that over the last few days I’ve had many ideas but no idea really grabbed me.

Initially I was going to be contrarian and make a case for stupidity over intelligence. I even found the Latin term, morophilia, for being attracted to stupid people. Latin always makes things look more intelligent, don’t you think!

As a morophiliac, I was going to make the case for being attracted to stupid people. They’re less likely to complain, win an argument against me and point out my mistakes. And they’re more likely to do what I want, lick my balls and darn my socks.

Then I thought I’m being silly and even stupid! So I then turned to another line of attack. I hit upon the idea of being the self-appointed site punishment officer to root out stupidity in the site, but I soon realised this would be a full-time job without pay!

My next idea was to write about the inaneness - or is it inanity? - of the term sapiosexuality. We probably all describe ourselves as sapiosexual to a lesser or greater extent, even Homer Simpson. It's a bit like how we all say we have a good sense of humour, like good food and are great at oral sex.

Cult members discussing sapiosexuality in a virtual symposium is a bit like the trolls discussing stupidity on the site's dark side, the Member Advice Lines!

Two days ago I thought I had a breakthrough moment with the symposium’s topic. I was going to write about the problematic nature of defining, measuring and observing intelligence. I was going to use Karl Popper’s philosophical argument that we can never prove something is true, we can only disprove something. But I soon realised this would be boring!

But that not-to-be breakthrough moment led to another idea. On television, Stephen Fry - the most intelligent person in the universe - claimed that nearly half of what we thought was true fifty years ago has been found not to be true now, and therefore most of what we think is true now is very likely not to be true!

But I realised I was going off-topic and confusing intelligence with truth. It was back to the drawing board. I then pondered whether humans are intelligent. Initially, I thought humans, because of their big brains, are intelligent and therefore are intrinsically sapiosexual. Then, I thought humans aren’t intelligent because of the messes they've caused on the planet. I was going nowhere!

Yesterday another brainwave hit me. If humans are both intelligent and stupid, then surely one’s intelligence is the awareness of one’s stupidity. I like a good oxymoron but I was reluctant to peddle an oxymoron to the wise cult!

This morning, desperate to post, I decided to do a balance sheet of the most intelligent and least intelligent things I’ve done in my life. My most intelligent thing, in my humble opinion, was to remain in education as long as possible. I could only think of one intelligent thing I’ve done!

My least intelligent things include not listening to my heart in relationships, treating life as a dress rehearsal and starting to smoke thinking it was just a holiday thing. This list was impressively long!

This balance sheet wasn't showing me in a good light. So I’ll just declare I'm not a sapiosexual. I’m attracted to stupid people because they make me look intelligent! I also like working with incompetent people as I look competent at work!

Though Homer Simpson is a sapiosexual, it seems that I am a morophiliac after all. I should have stuck with my first idea for this post. D’oh!

What are the most intelligent things that you’ve done in your life?
And what are the least intelligent things you’ve done?

My contribution has turned into a rambling set of vignettes! Probably the main reason why I struggled writing this post is that I’ve already blogged on sapiosexuality - please see ARE YOU A SAPIOSEXUAL.

I know that Socrates said "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing", so I can't say I know nothing and unfortunately I've failed the wisdom test

It seems to me that intelligence is like a good sense of humour.

If you have to tell people you have it then you probably don't

What are the most intelligent things that you’ve done in your life?
There isn't space for that here. The best thing I did was chasing my wife, and catching her, but no one would have called it smart, given the circumstances. I flouted the critics.

And what are the least intelligent things you’ve done?
There's even less space for that.

Balance sheets seem to be a bad idea for me. If I start pondering my life, it's probably time to go for a walk.

I think intelligence can measured at different levels...thus...what is smart for you may not be smart for me....and vice versa! I feel if we engage our minds as well as our bodies, we will have great sex!!

There have been subjects that we have written on that I have struggled and thought about explaining the process which is sort of what you did here.

I cannot sustain a sexual relationship with anyone that is considered "dumb" but my criteria and someone else's might not mesh.

Good post,
Kitkat

I am glad you didn't sit this one out.

What are the most intelligent things that you’ve done in your life? ah.. well there's... ah, and then there's.... oh... D'OH! I haven't a clue.

And what are the least intelligent things you’ve done? Plenty, you've seen many of them, but I will not make a list for you.

So now I know why you find me SO attractive!

I think we should plan a rendezvous in Amdterdam and see just how compatible we really are. I've put Amdterdam on my bucket list, but I cannot seem to find any flights or tourist information. Hopefully you'll be able to provide a few details for me when you return from holiday.

    xo
Amdterdam is not an easy place to get to. It's best to book flights and hotels through a secret agent!

The closest I cam to joining the military was joining the army cadet corps at school. I was in charge of the stores!
