IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC

Heston Blumenthal is a top chef and owner of The Fat Duck, a three Michelin-starred restaurant in Surrey. The restaurant is regularly ranked in the top ten restaurants in the world.

The chef is known for his scientific approach to cooking, an approach he termed "molecular gastronomy". Bacon and egg ice cream, snail porridge and meat fruit are three of his signature dishes.

The chef has consulted with Derren Brown, a renowned illusionist and hypnotist, to help the restaurant prepare dishes for its diners. Derren Brown has given advice to Heston Blumenthal on how to read the minds of people so that dishes can be tailored to the whims and fancies of his customers.

Strictly speaking Derren Brown doesn’t do magic, he does psychology. He has been involved in some amazing illusionist feats, often involving hypnotism.

He has played Russian roulette on television with a volunteer loading the gun. He has hypnotised someone in London for them to come round in a busy bazaar in Marrakech in Morocco. He has persuaded ordinary law-abiding people to get involved in an armed heist.

Though brought up on Paul "You'll like this ... not a lot, but you'll like it" Daniels, my favourite magicians include Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller (aka Penn & Teller), the street magician Dynamo and the stunt magician Wes Barker. David Copperfield is too polished for me, and David Blaine is too up-his-own-arse!

Harry Houdini is widely ranked as the best BDSM-practitioner, sorry I meant magician! But my most favourite magician is Tommy Cooper. He was very funny not least because his magic tricks rarely worked. "Just like that!"

Lemme get this straight. I'm expected to actually consume, ingest...swallow...the offerings of a fucking chef who regularly consults with a man who plays Russian Roulette? Maybe I won't be doing that. I may be old but I ain't ready for euthanasia just yet.

Who is your favourite magician?
Richard Nixon. While fostering detente with the Soviet Union he was at the same time mining Haiphong Harbor, which was full of Russian ships. All the while telling us that he had a plan to end the war in Vietnam, which plan he couldn't reveal unless we reelected him in 1972, which election he cheated to win. And we think politicians today are asswipes! He showed them the way.

No. I was busy yelling at the TV. I started early.

I avoided getting drafted, didn't I?

I am a fan of Piff The Magic Dragon. He was recently on Americas Got Talent.

I am more of a mentalist. I am usually spot on after spending a small amount of time with someone. In college, at parties, I was always asked to "psych" people. I usually made them cry because I was able to hone in on their insecurities. I no long preform this parlor trick.

I'm not into magicians as such....I liked Tommy Cooper but more for his stupid wit than anything else.

Never owned a magic set and I reckon I'd be hopeless.
