SEX IN SPACE  It seems only one couple has ever had sex together in space. In the 1979 Moonraker film, James Bond got it together with Dr Holly Goodhead! Despite numerous rumours and hoaxes, the American and Russian space authorities have consistently denied that their astronauts and cosmonauts have ever had sex in space. The joint American-Japanese STS-47 mission involved the first married couple, Mark Lee and Jan Davis, to be sent to space together. But there is no evidence that they had sex in space, though the couple didn’t deny they had sex! However, there’s plenty of evidence that people have masturbated in space. Apollo astronauts were advised to “self-stim” (self-stimulate) to prevent prostate infections while in space. When asked how she had sex in space, a Russian cosmonaut simply answered, “By hand”. According to the eminent astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, humans will have to colonise space in order to survive as Earth will no longer be hospitable for the human species. This means that humans will either have sex in space to reproduce or, if sex isn’t possible, reproduction will be done artificially. But surely humans will still want to have the pleasure of sex in space. There are many logistical, physiological and ethical problems to overcome for couples to have sex in space, to conceive and to give birth in space. "Sex is very difficult in zero gravity," said the University of Massachusetts’ scientist Athena Andreadis, "because you have no traction and you keep bumping against the walls". The rise of private spaceflight will perhaps lead to the first couple to have sex in space, though Virgin Galactic, if it ever gets off the ground, turned down a $1 million offer to make a film of people having sex in space. Interesting post, spunky! In my original profile from 11yrs. ago I think I wrote that "I wanna do it in outer space" as an answer to one of those personal Q's, I don't think zero gravity sex is what I'm after. Like the good dr. said, "no traction". What I want is the setting. I hope there's a large window when I finally get to do it.  blog on!
