SLUT LIKE YOU

This post is my contribution to the tenth virtual symposium organised by the cult leader humorlife. Contributions to the 'On Slut' virtual symposium can be found at Participants List For The Tenth Virtual Symposium On Slut.

I didn’t vote for this topic for the virtual symposium; I voted for technology as I wanted to write about the latest developments in toilet technology.

One of the advantages of participating in the virtual symposium is that the theme is decided by the cult leader - sorry, I meant voted for by cult members. There’s no need to think about a topic; it’s given. But I’ve found this topic very difficult to write about.

At first, I thought I’d play safe and write about the history of the word. I shared my draft post with my good friend joisygirl, who was also at a loss what to write about.

I felt sorry for her so I gave her my draft for her to post. So if you want to see what I was going to write about, please click 'her' [post 3668606] posting. My post would have been shorter!

I was now back to square one of not knowing what to write about. I then remembered Pink’s Slut Like You song, where she declared that "I'm not a slut, I just love love" before admitting that "I'm gonna let ya know the truth, I'm a slut like you". There was no inspiration to be found in Pink’s contradictory lyrics.

Yesterday I thought I’d write about men being sluts but then realised the word was originally coined to describe men. So I was a slut before I knew I was a slut. I thought this could be a useful contribution. But [blog LadyLeo1949] beat me to it in her excellent [post 3669386] posting.

Again back to square one! Yesterday afternoon, the idea of a slut-shaming came to me. But I realised that I’d only be preaching to the converted as, in the eyes of many, we’re all sluts here! However, I did find out that Jesus loved sluts! I love sluts too but I’m not a Christian!

In desperation I then thought I’d do a political post and write about reclaiming the word slut from its many negative connotations in the way the word is used.

As an experiment, I went downstairs and called my girlfriend a slut. After whacking me, she asked me not to use that word in front of her. I feebly said the word was meant as a compliment but she seemed far from convinced given her steely glare aimed at me!

How can I argue about reclaiming the slut word when I can’t even reclaim the word in my home?! Slut is a word I never use to describe people.

By yesterday evening, my ideas for the virtual symposium were going nowhere! I started to resign myself to not contributing to the virtual symposium.

When I woke up this morning, I started to tremble with fear as I realised I wasn’t going to make a sacrificial offering to the cult leader. I knew there’d be consequences; the cult leader may even ask for the return of my orange jumpsuit, the cult’s uniform and my badge of honour!

The thought of the shame of this punishment was too much to bear so I quickly knocked up this post. Though this post is not about sluts, it’s at least about me trying and failing to write about sluts. Square one is often the best square!

Do you ever use the word slut?
And if so, what do you mean by the word when you use it?
Do you have any off-limit words?

My off-limit words include - and I'm cringing as I list them - slut, nigger, wog, paki, chinky, faggot, spastic, mong and homo. I would only use these words with heavy irony amongst friends or if discussed in respectable forums like this virtual symposium!

There are other words I don’t like, such as fart and prat, but they’re not off-limits.

1 - Not yet in english, but I will as as as I'll fuck an Anglo one. I mean ... I did, but I was polite then, it was before I read you.

2 - Depends on who I call this way. If I'm involved in a filthy activity with someone the meaning is different than when I curse one.

3 - I dislike racist or sexist terms as you. About sexy fun, I'm not keen with "spunk" and "cum"

See? You DIDN'T fail to write about slut!

Do you ever use the word slut?
Yes. I use it in the same way that I occasionally use the word 'nigger'- ironically or in mockery of hypocritical not-so-closeted bigots. Mark Twain famously used it to expose the degradation of an entire race, and is still catching hell for it over a hundred years after his death. I might use 'slut' affectionately with a friend, in jest- but not often.

And if so, what do you mean by the word when you use it?
I could only apply the word with someone I'm very comfortable with, who I'm sure would get the jab. But it would be a reference to a sexual preference or an admission of a fetish, I reckon.

Do you have any off-limit words?
I don't think so. But as I indicated, you have to really know your audience before using what is normally seen as a degrading term. And context is everything. In a joking, lighthearted banter I could call my wife a slut, but it would be unthinkable in a more serious context- and vice versa. She can aim insulting terms at me, too, in a joking way. But when you hurl words as weapons- duck.

I have imitated the SNL "Jane, you ignorant SLUT!" phrase.
Usually substituting another name for Jane.
Good post,

Yes I#ve used the word and no doubt meant to hurt when I used it .... I don't pretend to be saint.

I don't like the word c*nt....especially when used by a woman about another woman.

Do you ever use the word slut? Occasionally among close friends and as a term of endearment.

And if so, what do you mean by the word when you use it? As I mentioned above, as a term of endearment.

Do you have any off-limit words? Yes. Sexist and racial slurs are certainly off-limit.

Great non-post!

Do you ever use the word slut?
Yes!
And if so, what do you mean by the word when you use it?
I use it as term of endearment for my FWB....she loves being called "my little slut" or my "cum slut." It turns her on!

Do you have any off-limit words?
Any word that is meant to be derogatory....then it's off limits for me!

Seems
Like
U
Tried

...and didn't do half bad

I've been reading these all day and my brain is fried, not easy coming up with unique acronyms related to the post (especially with that stoopid "U" )
Do I say "slut" ? Yes, usually when referring to someone who likes/ does something a lot/ too much (attention slut, nachos slut, shoe slut, etc...)
Off limits- only the "N" word (and my entire naval vocabulary in front of the grandkids)
Just thought of another one...

"Jane, you ignorant slut." watch?v=k80nW6AOhTs (5 second clip)

I don't have off-limit words. Some I try not to use in public, but the world had gone far too far PC.

I don't hear the word "slut" as much as I used to. It was very popular in high school. (Especially among girls, where is was usually derogatory. With boys it just meant "easy" and that wasn't always a bad thing. lol)

It's certainly not a word I use often.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

Cult leader here.

Wow, for someone who wasn't comfortable with the topic chosen by the masses, you seem to have come up with a number of terrific approaches!

I'd had this as a potential title for some time: I hesitated to put it up for vote for just the reason folks said. It's a difficult word, with a lot of angry connotations. I suspect if I'd listed it before now, it would have turned a lot of people off to the symposium.

But...

I believe folks have come to accept the range of ideas the symposium can encompass, and risked listing it. Had a lot of folks say they didn't think they would participate... and many of 'em ended up offering fine contributions. Others did stay away, which is a shame.

We did get a wide variety of discussion about the word. A few contributors have been unswayed by the discussion, and that's their perogative. I'm just delighted that they read (or are reading) all of the contributions.

Others offered historical views (as you did) while still others noted the contextual nature of the word.

Above all, everyone who read all the contributions this month now has a reservior of associations to draw on when they next hear the word. And some of those associations are a lot of fun. I suspect some of the word's sting will be blunted.

As for my own use: Contextual. Been called it, and used it, with people who I thought would appreciate it, at times when I thought they would appreciate it. And yes, there are expressions I would use behind closed doors which I wouldn't use in public.

Glad you contributed again, despite the hurdles. And yes, runner-up choices (bridges, etc., technology) will be offered at some undetermined time in the future. Brush up your campaigning skills!

Stop in, read, and offer comments at my "swinging as seen in the media" blog, "Confessions of a Lifestyle Man" humorlife, which is also the home of the monthly virtual symposium. New post: The Virtual Symposium Returns Lets Pick A Topic

It's often the words conjuring racial stereotypes and insults that are the most offensive. Also I don't like some words to describe people with learning difficulties.
