HORSES, LADIES AND PERVERTS   I was called a pervert yesterday for owning a pair of binoculars! I explained to my girlfriend that I need them when I go to the races. She asked me when was the last time I went to see the horses. Somewhat weakly I replied, "Ten years ago". She then accused me again of being a pervert! This last week was Royal Ascot week. It’s a notable meeting in the racing calendar. The week-long event is frequented by the Royal Family. The Queen is very keen on racing; she owns many race horses though none of her horses have ever won the prestigious Epsom Derby. In yesterday’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes, the once cocaine-snorting Frankie Dettori rode the American-trained Undrafted to victory. Above is a photo of the jockey performing his trademark flying dismount after victory. Undrafted is part-owned by the NFL player Wes Welker. The beat the favourite, the Australian-trained Brazen Beau, by half a length. The Australian trainer blamed Ascot’s wet "lawn" for his ’s defeat; it seems horses race on dirt tracks down under. I thought it was only whingeing pommies who blamed defeat on the known conditions! The jockey Ryan Moore recorded a modern-day record of nine victories at Royal Ascot, surpassing the previous record of eight winners held by Pat Eddery and the tax-dodging Lester Piggott. Royal Ascot is perhaps most famous for its Ladies Day when women are expected to wear fancy hats (or fascinators) and men are expected to wear top hats to match their formal suits. The Queen's hat caused some problems for bookmakers. Many racegoers bet on the colour of the Queen’s hat on Ladies Day. This year, her hat’s colour was pistachio, which was not listed by the bookmakers. Instead, bookmakers had to pay out on four colours - white, blue, green and turquoise! 1) My Daddy taught me to use binoculars for bird watching even from the livingroom. 2) I do enjoy horse racing even though I missed all 3 big races last month. 3) The hat the horse is wearing of course!!

I used to own binoculars for birdwatching....the feathered kind!! I recently gave them to one of the grandkids. I'm not really interested in horse racing. Don't much like hats either but the first one is rather cute....I hate fussy, flowery monstrosities of hats!!!!  ~~Anais Nin~~

What is your favourite Royal Ascot hat or hats shown below? I am not a fan of hats at all, my granddaughter loves them and looks good in them. If I must choose one of these, then number two, its a pretty color.
