LOVE IS THE DRUG

Research has found that love is a drug. The feeling of being in love is similar to being on drugs! There’s the hook with the highs and lows.

Ian Mitchell, a psychology lecturer at the University of Birmingham, has found that the feelings of love are very similar to the feelings of being drunk.

People in love release the hormone oxytocin, which is claimed to facilitate bonding between people. But Ian Mitchell claims, in a recent article in the journal Neuroscience and Behavioural Reviews, that falling in love mirrors the same patterns as drinking alcohol.

He argues that the effects of drinking alcohol are the same as the effects of oxytonin being released in your body - initially the loss of inhibition and the sense of togetherness and then, after more doses, the loss of social niceties with aggression and jealousy taking over!

Love is the drug was a 1975 hit single by Roxy Music. One of my earliest blog posts was on Roxy Music - TEENAGE KICKS. Incredibly, it attracted no comment!

Roxy Music was the first band I ever saw live. It was exciting, not least because I was standing behind two girls on a night out organised by an all boys boarding school.

Do you think falling in love is more than a release of chemicals in your body?
How many times have you fallen in love?
Who was the first musical artist that you paid to see live?

I’ve been in love five times. But I'm still in love with Roxy Music’s Country Life album cover, one of the best album covers and certainly a ’s dream, which I’m again gratuitously posting below!

Do you think falling in love is more than a release of chemicals in your body?
Yes. I didn't use to believe that, but I've changed my mind.

How many times have you fallen in love?
More than I care to mention, but the last one is special.

Who was the first musical artist that you paid to see live?
I paid regularly to listen to a local band- The Glass Menagerie. There were a lot of bands calling themselves that over the years. The first pop festival I went to was at Goose Lake, Michigan, in 1970. I got there late in the evening, crawled through a hole in the fence and Mountain was playing "Mississippi Queen" by the time I got to the stage. Jethro Tull was there, Ten Years After, James Gang, and Chicago Transit Authority. I was quite stoned- I can't remember all of them. There were about two hundred thousand people there. As was said of Woodstock: "That's a lotta freaks!"

3 times....but add 3 times for my kids and 4 times for my grandchildren..for a total of 10 times

"WTF" has this question got to do with love?
If I remember that far back, I think it was Roy Orbison!

Do you think falling in love is more than a release of chemicals in your body?
It is a release of chemicals but it is also a connection with someone. Albeit it can be one sided....like teens and their teen heart throbs!

How many times have you fallen in love?
Maybe 4 times.... a couple ended volatile...thus skewed my feelings at the end! LOL!

Who was the first musical artist that you paid to see live?
The Police!

Do you think falling in love is more than a release of chemicals in your body? Yes but once that high is gone, you have to like the one you are with.

How many times have you fallen in love? This is a hard one. What constitutes love instead of lust... I would say I have been in love once but lust, many times.

Who was the first musical artist that you paid to see live? The Plimsouls
They are a local Southern California band with some decent success. If you have seen the movie Valley Girls, the had a few songs on the soundtrack and were featured in the film.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I wish I could tell you it's more than just science, but my track record in love suggests I shouldn't give advice!

I remember The Animals, though The House of the Rising Sun was over-played when I started getting into music.

I think falling in love is not only a chemical reaction in the body but the mind as well.

I have fallen in love about 9 times... Once with you, S.

The first and only musical act that I've paid to see was The Village People in Cabaret at the Sydney Hilton Hotel in 1982... I rarely have the disposable income to spend on such things.
I'd have loved to have seen the Village People. I know all the dance moves!

I remember Ten Years After. I bought one of their albums but didn't play it much as punk came along and my life changed!

Fantastic, you posted a 'yes'!
The connection between love and music is very tenuous; I love Roxy Music's album, cover and they were the first band I ever saw!

The more I read about science, the more I'm inclined to believe in scientific explanations (even about love!).

I am not at all certain. I know the effects of it are wonderful, but sometimes lead to very bad judgement on the part of the afflicted.

How many times have you fallen in love? Many times, or is it infatuation, too many times to count. I guess I am a bit of a flake that way.

Who was the first musical artist that you paid to see live? The Osmond Brothers at the Great Allentown Fair around 1972 and probably every year after that. I was in love with Donny and Jay oh and probably all of them at one time or another. I also saw the Defranco Family in 1974 and Nino signed my hand and I told him I loved him, he said thank you. I am always falling in love...
I loved The Osmonds' Crazy Horses song.
