DIANA RIGG, SO MUCH MORE THAN PUSSY GALORE       After a prompt from my French friend Gntillhom, this post is all about Diana Rigg … and Honor Blackman … oh! and Joanna Lumley and Famke Janssen! Diana Rigg, or officially Dame Diana Rigg, was Emma Peel in the 1960s television series, The Avengers. She also appeared in the 1969 film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, as James Bond’s wife. More recently, she is starring in the hit television series Game of Thrones. Honor Blackman also appeared as The Avengers as Cathy Gale and she was also a Bond girl as Pussy Galore in the 1964 Goldfinger film. But, as a staunch republican, Honor Blackman turned down her offer of an honour from the Queen. The careers of these two British actresses have a striking symmetry. They both have avenged and they both have been "shaken, not stirred"! But only Diana Rigg has appeared in a porn film; Honor Blackman may have been Pussy Galore but Diana Rigg revealed a lot more! Roger Moore is my favourite James Bond. I can’t stand Sean Connery for being a tax exile while still accepting an honour from the Queen. Despite Diana Riggs’ smoking feminist credentials, Barbara Bach is my favourite Bond girl. As a footnote, Joanna Lumley was Purdey in the 1970s television series, The New Avengers, and she appeared in the same James Bond film as Diana Rigg, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Joanna Lumley accepted her offer of an honour from the Queen. As a further footnote, Famke Janssen, playing Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye, is allegedly the only woman to have had an orgasm in a James Bond film!   |

Were you a fan of The Avengers or The New Avengers? I loved the old series The Avengers. i've not seen the New Avengers. Are you a fan of James Bond? Meh. It's OK. If so, who is your favourite James Bond actor and who is your favourite so-called Bond girl? Sean Connery was James Bond when I was young so that's who I think of as 007. I don't really watch Jame Bond films, I may have seen one or two. Is everything you've said here true? I am not sure I believe you. I do remember watching the Avengers. I was seven to ten years old when it aired, but I remember it. I guess I was allowed to stay up pretty late. I am ten years younger than my sister, twelve years younger than my brother, so I watched a lot of television that wasn't age appropriate.

A bit late ... been busy ... thank you for everything, even the fake pics of Diana Rigg, who of course inspired many a fantasy. 1 - You already know that ! 2 - I like the Ian Fleming's books, where Bond is ugly, nasty ... no, more than that ! mean, a brute. The movies are like light lager cut with lemonade in comparison. Happily, there are the actresses ... 3 - As I prefer the books, Sean Connery fits alright. Moore's too much a gentleman. The girls ? I have sometimes watched The Avengers and The New Avengers out of boredom and became even more bored. The character of James Bond is a womanising misogynist who often sacrifices his leading ladies for his own safety. Not my idea of a man worthy of hero status. I prefer to watch paint dry but did enjoy The Spy Who Loved Me with Roger Moore and Barbra Bach. That car that goes underwater like a submarine totally rocks. It was once displayed at the Hoyts cinema complex on George Street, Sydney... I got to touch it!
