I'M RANDY FLY ME

I'M RANDY FLY ME

I hope other people can remember 10cc’s song I’m Mandy Fly Me from their classic 1976 How Dare You! album. I’ve always thought it was one of the best album covers; it always makes me think what is happening.

I loved 10cc until punk came along, and then my fickle love switched to Buzzcocks, The Clash, Generation X, The Jam, Sex Pistols, Slaughter & the Dogs, Ultravox! and X-Ray Spex.

Today I felt randy for the first time this year. I spotted my first sighting of a woman in hot pants!

I’m not sure whether the word randy means much outside the UK other than a person's name. But, according to the Collins English Dictionary, randy means "sexually excited or aroused", "sexually eager or lustful" or, in Scottish usage, "lacking any sense of propriety or restraint; reckless".

And, according to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, randy means "Desirous of sexual activity", "Sexually aroused" or, again in Scottish usage, "Ill-mannered".

I love etymology, the study of the origins of words.

According to the Chambers Dictionary of Etymology, randy as a word was first used in Scotland in 1698 and meant "rude, disorderly, loudmouthed". The word became popular in England by the mid-nineteenth century, but its meaning changed to "lewd or lustful".

I can now understand more why many Scots want independence; the English keep nicking and changing the meaning of their words!

I felt randy in the English sense; I felt lustful. It must be Spring Fever!

When was the last time you felt randy?
Does the weather affect your lustfulness?
Do you enjoy finding out the history of the meaning of words?

One thing's for sure....no one was wearing hotpants in Dublin today....the weather has gone back to brass monkey type!

The last time I felt randy was some time last week.

Warm sunny weather has a terrible effect on me!

I love finding out about the origins of words....it's fascinating.

When was the last time you felt randy?
Following _Lady_X_'s lead, I had a friend in school named Randy. I never felt him or wanted to. Nodding to the English meaning, about 7:30 this morning.

Does the weather affect your lustfulness?
I don't think so. My wife says I'm a fairly horny guy.

Do you enjoy finding out the history of the meaning of words?
Yes! It's endlessly fascinating!

1 - A better question would be' when was the last time I wasn't randy ?'
The answer beeing for a month two months ago. I had endured quite severe surgery,
it killed my libido even though I was surrounded by pretty nurses at hospital, what a pity.

2 - When it's cold, sex is a cool way to warm up. When it's hot, I'm hot too.

3 - You already know that of me, don't you, S. ? I'm as etymolohic as you are.

1. All the time...... typical man!
2. Not really, thar I'm aware of anyway.
3. Yes, word derivations fascinate me. Like, why is it called a fascinator, for example. The other thing I love is comparing words in different languages.

It has been a while since I felt Randy. He keeps avoiding me...

There's pills you can take to stop getting randy. Shall I send some over for a small fee?

I've got more into history as I've got older, probably because I have a history now and I'll be history very soon!

Warm weather works best for me!
Do you enjoy finding out the history of the meaning of words?
    Yes!
In the Californian weather, you must be in an almost permanent state of randy-ness!

Fair point, it's always better to be randy than not randy!

I barely remember 10cc's Dreadlock Holiday...

I was randy about a second or so ago... I was remembering someone who really turns me on.

I'm always severely impacted by the weather... If the temperature gets too high, I cannot tolerate any physical contact.

I have always found the etymology of words deeply fascinating, so this post was right up my...alley.
Let's do a challenge post - the etymology of etymology?

Like you, I don't understand why a woman's hat should be called a fascinator! More research is needed into this topic!

History, for some reason, seems to get more interesting as we get older!
