SEX BY NUMBERS  The British statistician Professor David Spiegelhalter has just written a book on sex and statistics - Sex by Numbers: What Statistics Can Tell Us About Sexual Behaviour. He is very critical of the reliability of the sources of many sex statistics. As a German word, Spiegelhalter means mirror-holder in the English language; clearly the professor is a pervert! Here are ten Spiegelhalter-approved statistics about the sex lives of British people: 1. 999 out of 1,000 cases of sex are for recreational not procreational purposes. 2. The average heterosexual couple had sex three times in the past month, down from five times 20 years ago. 3. The average age of first sex for women now stands at 16, three years younger than women born in the 1930s. 4. In 2012, 2.5 per cent of 16-year old girls got pregnant, down from 5 per cent in 1972. 5. 80 per cent of 25- to 34-year olds had oral sex last year. 6. Nearly 20 per cent of women have had a same-sex experience, compared with one in 40 women aged 70. 7. 34 per cent of women lost interest in sex for at least three months, roughly twice the number of men. 8. Two thirds of men had masturbated in the last month, but only one third of women had masturbated. 9. 1.2 million people identify themselves as gay, lesbian or bisexual. 10. In 2010, 18 per cent of men had anal sex with a woman, up from 12 per cent in 2000 and 6 per cent in 1990. I’m not very good at statistics. I can just about add up! Here is my attempt at sex by numbers or, to be more precise, sofa sex by numbers. Because I can only confidently count on one hand, below are five sex positions performed on a sofa. I guess the statistics don't really surprise me but I doubt that people give truthful answers for this sort of thing. I mean who is going to say they masturbate morning, noon and night? The last time I had sex on the sofa??? Don't remember....certainly over 5 years ago because this sofa hasn't been christened.  ~~Anais Nin~~

Do any of these statistical findings surprise you? guess not When was the last time you had sex on a sofa? decades, I haven't even owned a couch for five years or a love seat either, gave them away when we moved. Made do with a wooden rocker and a recliner for over a year, bought two recliners last year like proper old couples do. Really did kill our sex lives, no more cuddling on the couch, not for five years. I need to buy one real soon. And what position did you have sex on a sofa? him on top or what kzoo said. I think that is much more intimate than intercourse but everyone goes for it right out of the gate. I was making love, I really don't like calling it sex, I suppose sometimes it is that and only that, anyways, we were making love for at least two weeks before we ventured off the path and kissed each other there. I don't even think I could do that with someone else. Although the journey continues Hugh, two weeks ago, my halo tilted for the first time. I was surprised by the masturbation statistic ( #8 ), I would have imagined there was more going on. I last had sex on a sofa in September of last year, I was facing him and holding onto the backrest. It was a very good time. I often say couch for my US friends. Question 3 has already been answered. I do find reading sex statistics fun and enjoy calculating and compiling statistics from other data.

Regarding anal sex, it may be that people didn't admit to anal sex as much in the past. One never knows with statistics from surveys.
