MOVE OVER ROTHKO 1:  2: Darkness of Illumination  3:  I’m really excited, really excited, about this post. I’ve now found my new favourite artist. It’s goodbye Mark Rothko, and hello Terry Rodgers. Terry Rodgers is an American artist whose style embraces what is called in the art world representational realism. I think that means his artwork is photograph-like. Since very recently stumbling across his work, I’ve been poring over his back catalogue. I’ve selected ten of his paintings to post here; I’d post more if I could! I’d love to be a curator, but I’ll just have to make do with being a curator of my blog! Terry Rodgers’ paintings are lush, decadent, erotic, inviting but stylised. What's there not to like? In the party scenes, no one seems to be enjoying themselves or looking at each other. His paintings don’t seem to have a foreground and background. There’s detail everywhere, whether it’s a cigarette, a clock, a cock, a curtain or a cushion! What do you think of Terry Rodgers' artwork? If you like his art, what painting of the ten posted here do you like most? Would you hang up one of his paintings in your home? I'm thinking of buying prints of Terry Rodgers' paintings to hang liberally on my lounge walls. It's the first time I've ever come across his work...it's good. I like No. 5 the best. There is a sense of peaceful serenity about it. I don't think any of his work would look its best beside the pictures I already have on my walls....of the grandkids lol!  ~~Anais Nin~~

They kind of reminded me of an X-rated soap opera. Stories on everyone's face yet they don't quite open up. No one is smiling. The people seem almost bored. I like the style but I already get enough grief for the nudes I have in bedroom.

Some of it is quite glamorous but some isn't. It's evocative of orgies from the 1970s. I really like numbers 3, 7, 6 and 1 in that order. I would definitely hang number 3 in my home.

I'm only aware of what they (1970s style orgies) look like from old porn that I have seen about 15 years after it was made.

What do you think of Terry Rodgers' artwork? It's alright, he's captured a slice of life, but these are enormous, larger than life, would take up almost the entire wall or a good chunk of it anyway, ten feet by six or eight feet as an estimation. No probably not, not that I could afford one.
