EYES WIDE OPEN  Over the weekend I was reading a letter to an agony aunt, though Suzi Godson is dubbed a sex counsel by The Times. The letter was from a woman who is worried that her husband always closes his eyes when they have sex. The wife believes that he is fantasising about another woman and she now feels “jealous”. Suzi Godson, while acknowledging that her husband may be fantasising, tried to reassure the wife by listing other reasons why the husband closes his eyes while having sex with her. The husband, according to Suzi Godson, may be trying to avoid coming too quickly or finding it easier to relax with his eyes shut. She very politely forgot to mention that the wife may be very ugly! But Suzi Godson then advised the wife that, even if the husband is fantasising about another woman, it is not necessarily a threat to the relationship. She cites one study that found one-half of people regularly fantasise about sex with their partner and not someone else. As a further reassurance, Suzi Godson answered that “fantasy allows couples to experience variety without violating the grounds of monogamy.” And, as a last desperate measure of reassurance, Suzi Godson advised the wife to talk to her husband. At least she didn’t say that she was sending a leaflet to the wife. Being an agony aunt is easy! Could you be an agony aunt? Generally, are your eyes open or shut when having sex? I don't think I'd be a very good Agony Aunt....I tend to be a bit blunt and sarcastic at times.  My eyes would always be at least half open.  If, as often happened in the latter part of my second marriage, I wasn't enjoying it....yes then I would have fantasised about someone else. ~~Anais Nin~~

Sometimes eyes open, sometimes closed... but never fantasizing about someone else. I think you're on to a bit of a loser if you have to pretend you're with someone else to enjoy sex... Though I'm surprised that the "sexpert" would come up with the obscure "he's trying to delay" rather than the obvious "he's probably just concentrating on the sensation".

I think I could be a fairly compassionate, sensitive and knowledgeable agony aunt with multiple topics. My eyes are open to varying degrees throughout sexual activities, expecially where I'm involved. I never fantasise about anyone when I'm in the throes of sex, I like to be focussing on enjoying the person I'm with, wholeheartedly. The problem letters they publish are so ridiculous that surely, even if accepting the letters are genuine, no one would expect their problems to be solved by writing a letter to a newspaper.

I quite agree; eyes locked open is a little disturbing, a few regular blinks make things more relaxing.
