TO WIN A WOMAN'S HEART, INTERRUPT HER   I have never been speed dating. But I was in a bar when speed dating was taking place. It looked like a fascinating event. Having witnessed speed dating, it made me think what I would do if I was speed-dating. Given you’ve only got a few minutes, you have to have tactics. Surely, you just can’t be unprepared and be yourself! If talking to someone who I found attractive, I decided I would ask lots of questions and listen attentively, while dropping enough hints that I was not a bankrupt, a psychopath and a mummy’s boy. If talking to someone who I didn’t find attractive, I decided I would bore them to death by talking about politics! Stanford University’s Professor Dan Jurafsky has conducted research on speed dating and, with others, has written an interesting paper on speed dating, 'It’s Not You, it’s Me: Detecting Flirting and its Misperception in Speed-Dates'. The professor of linguistics and computer science found that talking about work was a big turn-off when speed-dating. “The more the man talked about work, the worse the date went”, Professor Jurafsky observed. But, slightly surprisingly, he found that the more someone interrupts the conversation the better the date went. The professor explained, “They would stop someone and say ‘Oh, that’s exactly what’s happened to me too’.” The professor also found that women have most power during speed dating (a bit like this site!): “It turns out in general the women are the deciders. Men tend to say yes to almost everybody, and women are much more selective. The empowered party in this interaction is the woman.” Professor Jurafsky added: “We went in assuming men would talk about themselves…. We were surprised to find that stereotype is not true.” Have you ever done speed dating? If not, would you be tempted to go speed dating? What tactics have you used or would you use for speed dating? If single again, I’d be very tempted to go speed dating and I’d make sure I interrupt a lot in conversations to demonstrate my limited empathy! No I wouldn't try speed dating. No tactics needed, Patience is all that is required. What doesn't come out in the wash, will come out in the dryer. I maintain my own center, I don't give anyone power over me. I live to well to do something like that.

Why do my pictures end up enormous, sorry, I don't mean to take over your post. I am glad you are off the market, it is healthier for people to remain attached. I wonder why it doesn't always last though. I wonder if I will stick it out, anyone taking wagers? Did you know, Canada Geese mate for life but will mate again upon the death of a mate? They are often mistakenly referred to as Canadian Geese, but they are Canada Geese ( Branta canadensis ).  They stay all winter!

I would use your tactic, just a bit more to the point. I would start off saying, " I was not a bankrupt, a psychopath and a mummy’s boy." LOL then let them work out the Mummy's boy part. LOL

I think it might be extremely awkward, but I am really unfamiliar with it, heard of it, never have seen it. New documentary called “The Age of Love.” Directed by Steven Loring, the film follows all 30 seniors as they try out speed dating at a special event designed solely for those between the age of 70 and 90. The film was inspired by Loring’s seeing an elderly uncle fall in love for the first time at 79. I would definitely prefer the non-speed mode. But, if you're stuck on a date with someone you don't like, speed mode would have its advantages!
