ROBOT SEX     Technology and me just don’t get on very well. I like things to be kept simple and technology is far from simple. I’m still recovering from the shock of Samsung’s new smart television that records images and conversations of those watching. Though the recording function can be deacrivated and an assurance that the company "takes consumer privacy very seriously", Samsung's privacy policy allows "personal or other sensitive information" to be "captured and transmitted to a third party". Big Brother! The renowned astrophysicist Professor Stephen Hawking, whose life inspired the award-winning The Theory of Everything film, recently suggested that artificial intelligence "could spell the end of the human race". He believed that technology will eventually become self-aware and that artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence. Robots are already making cars, talking, walking upstairs and downstairs, playing chess, playing musical instruments, playing sport, cooking and serving food, and cleaning homes! Do you worry that robots will become out of control? Would you ever sex with a robot if it looked and behaved like a human being? If stranded on a desert island with only a sexy robot as company, would you have sex with the robot? Though technology has improved the lot of billions, I do worry about the future increasingly dominated by technology. Remember the murderous computer HAL in Arthur C Clarke’s and Stanley Kubrick’s film, 2001: A Space Odyssey! But if I was all alone on a desert island, I’d have sex with my sexy robot no matter what it looked like or how it behaved!       |

I don't particularly worry about robots taking over but my phone sometimes bothers me a little....it seems to know an awful lot about me and even talks to me at times!!! I doubt I would have sex with a robot....even if it was my only company on a desert island......I'd disable it and use it as a floating device to help me get off the island!!! ~~Anais Nin~~

The answer to avoiding having what you say or do recorded is to not buy a 'SMART TV' until you have the technical knowhow to disarm and remove these features. To your questions: I do worry that in our pursuit for increased convenience and free time, we will increasingly create technologies that will make us obsolete and take over. Not a robot, as such, but an android that was like Schwarzennegger's terminator in Terminator 2 but would have to be personally, aesthetically, designed. 'He' would have to feel and look like a human and be programmed to be incapable of harming a human. Big drawback, no biological capacity to manufacture my favourite beverage. Question 3... See above... Otherwise, no. In universities, there's a lot of research money dished out to examine disruptive technologies!
