A HISTORY OF THE VIBRATOR

A HISTORY OF THE VIBRATOR

Vibrators were invented for men and not for women.

Dating back to Ancient Greek times, female hysteria was a common medical diagnosis. A common treatment for female hysteria, especially in Victorian times, was for doctors to masturbate women to orgasm. Doctors complained that this was hard and time-consuming work.

The vibrator was originally invented for doctors to treat women diagnosed with hysteria. In 1734, one of the first vibrators, the Tremoussoir, was invented in France. The first steam-powered vibrator was the Manipulator, invented by the American doctor George Taylor in 1869. In 1883 the British doctor, Joseph Mortimer Granville invented the first electro-mechanical vibrator, often called Granville’s Hammer.

The first electric vibrator, designed for pleasure rather than for medical use, was patented in 1902 by the American company Hamilton Beach. The vibrator thus became the fifth domestic appliance to be electrified, after the sewing machine, fan, kettle and toaster and before the vacuum cleaner and iron.

In the 1960s, the first cordless vibrator was invented. Nowadays, vibrators are sold in supermarkets, at least in Western countries.

Above is a vibrator showing attitude and a chic vibrator-necklace, The Vesper.

In 2009, research found that over 50 per cent of women in America have used a vibrator.

Despite vibrators being invented for women, they are used by women for women. There’s evidence that some men see vibrators as a threat to them. The Times sex counsel Suzi Godson did a G oogle search with the phrase 'afraid of my girlfriend’s vibrator'. Her search yielded over 2,300,000 results.

Indiana University’s Center for Sexual Health Promotion found that 36 per cent of American couples have used a vibrator while having sex together.

Do you own a vibrator?
If so, how many vibrators do you own? And, what's your favourite vibrator?
Do you regularly use a vibrator when having sex with your partner?

I have a few vibrators in my drawer, but they’re gathering dust. I don’t like the noise of a vibrator and the controls are a little bit fiddly. Plus when the vibrator is out, my cock is vibrating making the vibrator redundant!

PS. The proportion of women prescribed anti-depressants now is about the same as those women then diagnosed with hysteria. Plus ça change!

Do you own a vibrator? I don't own them, but I do purchase them as gifts

If so, how many vibrators do you own? See above

And, what's your favourite vibrator? I don't know the name, but the small ones looking similar to lip stick and vibrate the head

Do you regularly use a vibrator when having sex with your partner? They always seem to work into playtime

PD has a couple- I bought both of them for her. She liked the first, a little bullet, but still preferred manual or oral manipulation. Then came the Magic Wand. It was a big hit. She still prefers the human touch.

Yes I own a vibrator....it is my third and I have ditched the other two. I haven't a clue what it is called...it was a present and it is perfect for me. I found the other two on the big side and the controls were hard to manage.

I sometimes use it with a partner...it can be fun.

Do you own a vibrator? I finally ordered one.
If so, how many vibrators do you own? Only one right now but have owned many. And, what's your favourite vibrator? I like the kind that I can use on both my clit or inserted.
Do you regularly use a vibrator when having sex with your partner? No.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

Have I used them use, Yes. But I can't get the same feedback that I get from the use of fingers, cock or tongue.

Find pleasure in giving pleasure

It never used to be necessary, but lately it is preferred to a partner, sad, but true.
I hope your newly purchased vibrator is getting plenty of use!

Vibrators aren't my cup of tea at all, even a Hitachi Wand. I find them unnatural. Real cocks don't vibrate, they might throb but it's different to the sensations of something motorised.
Vibrators aren't my thing either, especially if used on me or if used instead of me!

The Magic Wand seems a big hit for women, but I'm pleased to hear that PD prefers your touch. Just touch!

Some vibrators are so obscenely big that they can only be designed by the imaginations of men!
I've never associated lesbians with vibrators but I don't associate much with vibrators.

I've used cock rings and I just can't see what the point of them is. They didn't seem to enhance my partner's pleasure or prolong/strengthen my erection. Oh that's the point, I need to buy the buy the right cock ring!
