THE PIRELLI CALENDAR     Above are four photos, taken by Steven Meisel, used in this year’s fetish-themed Pirelli Calendar. Below are six other photos used in previous Pirelli calendars. The Pirelli Calendar is produced by Pirelli UK Limited, a subsidiary of the tyre company Pirelli. First launched in 1964, top photographers are commissioned to take photos of top models for the annual themed calendar. The calendar wasn’t published for ten years between 1974 and 1984, because the company wanted to cut costs. The calendar is only given as a corporate gift to a restricted number of Pirelli’s customers and celebrities. The calendars cannot be purchased, but they have become highly collectable items. Pirelli have used Robert Freeman, Karl Lagerfeld, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Testino and Bruce Weber to take photos for its calendars. Gisele Bündchen, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Penélope Cruz, Sophie Dahl (Roald Dahl’s granddaughter), Eva Herzigova, Miranda Kerr, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Jennifer Lopez, Sophia Loren, Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Hilary Swank and Alek Wek have all appeared in Pirelli's calendars. At the age of 72, Sophia Loren appeared semi-naked in the 2007 Pirelli Calendar. Have you ever had a Pirelli Calendar? Do you keep a calendar up at home or work? I usually get given a calendar showing topless ice hockey players of my favourite team, Nottingham Panthers, but Santa Claus forgot to give me a calendar at Xmas. I've never had a Pirelli Calendar, or even seen one in the flesh. But we have several calendars around the house. They usually feature dogs! I love pinup calendars, and when I was still driving I used to keep track of my customers' calendars with interest. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Work want me keep an open-access diary on my computer at work but I refuse to do so. They know where I am!

I prefer an old-fashioned diary than an electronic diary too. I think it's quicker and easier to maintain.

That's a lot of calendars to manage. I don't write anything on my calendars; they're just there so I can plan ahead. I keep everything I have to do etc in my diary, which I had lost the other day! I didn't know if I was to be somewhere else seeing someone else. It was very confusing.

I don't think Pirelli Calendar's fame has reached America ... yet!

|
I have never had a Pirelli calendar and since they are so exclusive, I would throw it in the trash if I received one other than as a gift from a friend who I respected a lot. Most years, I do not keep a paper calendar... I get little credit card size ones from the Post Office (they're free and handy) but I mostly rely on the one in my smartphone. I even write shopping lists in it.
