FESTIVE NOTTINGHAM
FESTIVE NOTTINGHAM Following a prompt from my blogging friend grayblue1, this post is about how my city, Nottingham, celebrates Christmas. The council always puts up lots of Christmas lights and Christmas trees all over the city. Also, on Old Market Square, the city’s main square below, there’s a Christmas market, an ice rink and a fun fair. Nottingham’s two theatres always put on pantomime shows over the festive period. Nottingham Playhouse is showing Sleeping Beauty, and the Theatre Royal is showing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I’ll probably go to the Sleeping Beauty panto as the director, Kenneth Alan Taylor, always does brilliant contemporary interpretations of classic panto without relying on celebrity actors. The main Christmas celebrations in Nottingham, like elsewhere, seem to involve lots of shopping, eating and drinking! How does where you live celebrate Christmas? If celebrating Christmas, how are your festive preparations going? My festive preparations are going slowly. The only task accomplished so far is my 'Dear Santa' letter has been written! I’m about to finish sending my Xmas cards; they may not arrive by Christmas Day! I’ve got a few Xmas presents to buy, though I know what I want to buy so that shouldn’t take too long. I’ve still got my Xmas presents to wrap. And I’ve also got to do a big food-and-drink shop for the Christmas Day meal. |

How does where you live celebrate Christmas? It is rather quiet here. It is a very small municipality. Mostly it is at the various church services. The Municipality changed over to a winter Festival Parade several years ago as a sign of political correctness. It is very sparsely attended, since no one here celebrates winter, just Christmas and the other Holidays of this time of year. If celebrating Christmas, How are your festive preparations going? I think all of my Christmas stuff is ready, just counting down now

How does where you live celebrate Christmas? There's a park square downtown in Kalamazoo, by the courthouse. The trees are strung with lights and there's a candy cane walk and other stuff to amuse the children. [image] If celebrating Christmas, How are your festive preparations going? We don't personally do much decorating. We just have a tiny little tree. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Dublin is beautiful at Christmas....most of the main streets in the city have Christmas lights and there is a market this year in St. Stephen's Green. My preparations are all done now all I have to do is mind the little ones tomorrow so that my daughter can get the grocery shopping in peace. I hope she doesn't forget her way home. An Irish Christmas involves family, lots of eating and drinking....mine will be pretty typical!!! ~~Anais Nin~~

Our city puts some Christmas decoration on downtown street lights and decorated a park in the city core., nothing overwhelming! Some private residents go all out! I am almost ready for the big day!

In the suburb where I live it's impossible to tell that it's christmas at all and most of the houses in my neighbourhood have very few, if any, decorations on them. However, in the main city of Sydney, in the now world known Martin Place, at the George Street end of the Anzac Memorial Cenotaph beside the Historical General Post Office, there is always a tree that must be at least 45 metres tall. As far as my christmas celebrations go, I have sent out all my cards and wished nearly all of my online friends the very best for the season and I have some yummy sweet biscuits, a large bag of crisps, a tray of expensive chocolates and some alcohol to wash it down with. I will be raising my glass in a celebratory toast to you, dear S.

That's a beautiful light show. Thanks for posting the photo.

Here, they hang lights across the market square and from the street lights. The better decorations are inside the small pedestrian mall. There's a switching on the lights event with music which is well attended. It ends with a firework show every bit as good as those around November 5th. I've done the shopping and nearly all the wrapping. I don't give out cards or send smug emails. All I need to do now is deliver presents to close family and stop wracking my brain to think of other things to buy.
