DON’T BE FUNNY IF YOU WANT TO LIVE

It seems that being funny is not good for your health. Recent research has shown that the funnier people are, the earlier they’ll die.

Researchers from the Australian Catholic University studied 53 British and Irish male comedians born between 1912 and 1953 and found that many died early. Of the 23 ranked the funniest by the Ranker website, 78 per cent had died early, including Tony Hancock, Peter Sellers and Tommy Cooper.

Professor Simon Stewart, the lead researcher, said: “Comedy duos are extremely important because these guys were generally from the same background and of the same age.” The research found that the funny man was three times more likely to die early than the straight man (or stooge) of a comedy duo.

Eric Morecambe died much earlier than Ernie Wise - see one of their Morecambe & Wise sketches above. Of Derek and Clive fame, Peter Cook died much earlier than Dudley Moore.

Their research findings have been published in the International Journal of Cardiology. The research excluded male comedians from other countries and female comedians in order to minimise the effect of other factors causing mortality.

Do you laugh or make people laugh a lot?
How would you describe your laugh?
When was the last time you laughed while having sex?

I like making people laugh. I don’t laugh too much but, when I do, I giggle. Sometimes I laugh when having sex because the act of sex is just so ridiculous to watch!

If this is true, Jerry Lewis should live forever.

Do you laugh or make people laugh a lot?
I laugh a lot. People laugh at me a lot.

How would you describe your laugh?
Laughable!

When was the last time you laughed while having sex?
I laugh all the time in bed, but my wife laughs more.

I tend to laugh a lot and am pretty good at making the grandkids laugh.

My laugh is more like an uncontrollable giggle.....and difficult to stop.

I have often been in knots of laughter having sex....I am very ticklish.

Do you laugh or make people laugh a lot? I am awful at telling jokes, so not many laugh at my stories. But I will laugh at a funny story or joke.

How would you describe your laugh? I think it would be a deep chuckle

When was the last time you laughed while having sex? When we fell out of bed while playing. we just carried on the floor

If you look at most comedians....they are very insecure people and many have been diagnosed with depression or bipolar II. Thus, being funny or laughing is not the reason they died early....it is the possibility of the stress related to their mental illness or the quality of life. What about their alcohol use or abuse? What about their use of cigarettes? There are too many things that contributed to the early demise of comedians....not just one thing.

Look at all the famous comedians who died early....some by suicide...some by alcohol disease...some by lung cancer.....heart attacks.....and strokes. I am always careful with studies that try to find causal reasons for an illness, because their are too many variables to control and how do you rule them out?

1. Laughter is essential, I couldn't live without it.
2. Guttural.
3. Can't remember, I don't think it was recently.

Both! I laugh and help others find humor.
My laugh is a big booming loud laugh. Sometimes a bit more than it should be.
Last time I had sex I laughed because just before we were going to climax, the baby started talking out loud from her crib. It was 3am...she was supposed to be asleep and I was biting my lip not to make to much noise...Luckily she went back to sleep and MB and I finished what we had started.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

I don't believe being funny and laughter has anything to do with mortality! Laughter is said to be the best medicine! I do my best to make people laugh. I was a practical joker in school. I have never really thought about my laugh as far as describing it.....it varies from giggles to uncontrollable to the point of tears.
I can't remember a time of laughing "during" sex but then it has been a while.

I laugh a lot and can often make other people laugh as well.

My laugh varies depending upon how funny something is.

I don't remember the last time I laughed while having sex, but I have occasionally laughed just at the pure joy of what we are sharing.

I don't laugh a lot but sometimes I can give hours of laughter to others with my humour.
My laugh has morphed considerably over the years and it mostly depends upon how funny something is whether I chortle, snicker, giggle, cluck or howl.
I used to always laugh during sex with my ex (last year) but I'm usually not that relaxed with a new partner.
I snigger and giggle but I've done a howl when laughing ... yet!

I've had to suppress my humour when online. Offline humour doesn't work so well online. There's no tone or facial expression to follow it up.

I'm not one for telling jokes either; sometimes telling jokes, particularly after a couple, can be quite contrived.
A deep chuckle is great.

You're right, there are lots of variables to control. But it's perhaps best to try to explain patterns than not try.
I'm pleased you enjoy reading my posts.
