DOWNLIFTING AND UPLIFTING   I’ve often pondered, when in a lift (or elevator to my American friends), what I'do if the lift malfunctioned and just plummeted downwards. If I jumped up just before the lift crashed to the ground, would I avoid serious injury and maybe death? I’m sure others have pondered this and I’m sure there’s been research undertaken on this, but I don’t know what would happen to me if I jumped just before the lift crashed. Being in a lift with people is often a slightly awkward situation – no one seems to know where to look or what to say, especially if I’m having sex in the lift! Maybe this is a British thing. How comfortable are you in a lift (or elevator)? Have you ever been stuck in a lift? Have you ever had sex in a lift? I always take the stairs rather than a lift, unless I’m trying to get to any floor above the first floor! I’ve never had sex in a lift though I’ve done a bit of fondling. I don’t like lifts.   |

I'm pretty comfortable in an elevator, unless it's one with windows so I can see how high I am. I've never bee stuck in one- that might make me nervous about them permanently. I've never had sex in an elevator either. I tried to start something in one but she was too shy and shut it down! Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Yes I thought of the "jumping" thing!  I am comfortable with indoor elevators, but very uncomfortable in outdoor ones! Never been stuck or had sex in one! Have your ever been in an elevator with other people and when the door closes, tell them not to worry, the doors will open again? Have you ever passed a silent fart, then step off the elevator?

I'm actually quite nervous in a lift....I don't like it at all. Yes I was stuck in a lift in a carpark once....I was alone and was terrified. I was there for almost an hour. Never had sex in a lift. ~~Anais Nin~~

I'm comfortable inside of elevators. I've never been stuck in one, but years ago I used to work as a security guard in a high rise building and was shown how to get it open if it were to become stuck. So far, I've never had to use that knowledge. I've never had sex in one, although we did our share of groping and kissing on our way to our room.

1. I'm okay with lifts though often wonder wryly how 12 persons could ever fit into such an impossibly small space. 2. Nope. 3. Nothing more than a fumble. As for jumping before it hits the bottom, unless your upward speed matches the downward speed of the lift, I'm afraid you'd still make a big splat!

I took a lift up to the World Trade Centre where there was a glass floor to look down. That was fun.

The plummeting lift is a myth... I saw a documentary called 'Elevators' about 5 years ago and with all the gears and braking systems, it's something like one in several hundred million that you would ever be in a plummeting lift like what you see in movies. Those scenes are specially created with all the braking systems turned off. They're electrical and the default setting is brakes on, in case the power fails, the brakes jam into the 'ON' position and the lift won't move at all. To your questions... How comfortable are you in an elevator? Generally comfortable, unless it's crowded or I'm flatulent. Have you ever been stuck in one? Yes, with a "family" member who became hysterical. That was fun - NOT! Have you ever had sex in a lift? Came close a few times with an ex but still hopeful of going all the way.

My daughter is afraid of lifts/elevators, we often have to use the stairs. Twice we avoided being stuck in a lift when she forced us to use the stairs. Once was in a hotel in Myrtle Beach, We climbed 15 sets of stairs with luggage because she was so insistent, we later found out, had we taken the elevator, we'd have gotten stuck. The other time was in London at Russel Square, we had to descend a wicked set of stairs to get to the platform. There are 175 stairs and a spiral staircase. When we reached the platform, everyone was milling about looking for the way out because the elevator had gotten stuck. I do not like the tube either. On our first trip to London, Dad said get on the train, a last minute decision. Not a good idea. I made it, Dad and Mandi didn't (mind the doors). Mandi's foot almost managed to make the train. I stood there trying to open the door, helpless, with half my daughter's foot lodged in the door. I managed to pull her shoe in (a clog) as she pulled her foot out. The door snapped shut and off I went, shoe in hand, waiving goodbye to my husband and daughter. We didn't have mobile phones either; fortunately they were smart enough to wait until I caught a train in the opposite direction and returned to them. I refuse to travel through Manchester, because the trains are awful. Wimslow station is the worst. With only minutes to make a connection and sixty-five pounds of luggage, fifty pound checked bag and a fifteen pound carry on, I came face to face with two fights of stairs to reach the platform. I still don't know how I managed. I hate traveling. Tomorrow I will travel via Birmingham (my favorite airport in the UK, small and I can stay in a hotel across from the terminal) and then it is only ONE train and three and a half hours to Aber.
