HAPPY THANKSGIVING
HAPPY THANKSGIVING Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. Thanksgiving isn’t celebrated here in the UK or perhaps anywhere outside America. I know very little what Thanksgiving is all about, except that it seems to involve families getting together to eat lots of roast turkey. Here on Christmas Day, families get together to eat roast turkey. So I hope the Americans don't eat all the turkey so there's none left over for me on Christmas Day! Christmas is my favourite holiday period; my least favourite holiday period is New Year. But I also love celebrating people’s birthdays; everyone should have a special day every year. What does Thanksgiving mean to you? What’s your most favourite and least favourite holiday period? Do you like dreadlocks? Below is a poem entitled Talking Turkeys! written by the Rastafarian dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah - see photo below: Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas Cos' turkeys just wanna hav fun Turkeys are cool, turkeys are wicked An every turkey has a Mum. Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas, Don't eat it, keep it alive, It could be yu mate, an not on your plate Say, Yo! Turkey I'm on your side. I got lots of friends who are turkeys An all of dem fear christmas time, Dey wanna enjoy it, dey say humans destroyed it An humans are out of dere mind, Yeah, I got lots of friends who are turkeys Dey all hav a right to a life, Not to be caged up an genetically made up By any farmer an his wife. Turkeys just wanna play reggae Turkeys just wanna hip-hop Can yu imagine a nice young turkey saying, 'I cannot wait for de chop', Turkeys like getting presents, dey wanna watch christmas TV, Turkeys hav brains an turkeys feel pain In many ways like yu an me. I once knew a turkey called........ Turkey He said "Benji explain to me please, Who put de turkey in christmas An what happens to christmas trees?", I said "I am not too sure turkey But it's nothing to do wid Christ Mass Humans get greedy an waste more dan need be An business men mek loadsa cash'. Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas Invite dem indoors fe sum greens Let dem eat cake an let dem partake In a plate of organic grown beans, Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas An spare dem de cut of de knife, Join Turkeys United an dey'll be delighted An yu will mek new friends 'for life'. |

Thanksgiving just means an American holiday to me. My favourite holiday is Christmas because it's the only time that all my family are together in one room. I don' like dreadlocks at all. They look so messy. ~~Anais Nin~~

As an australian, Thanksgiving means no more to me than it does to you, dear S. I barely recognise holidays, as someone who has been denied participation in the workforce, I don't really notice them, I also have no family to converge with and all the people in the world who I consider my friends live on other continents. It sounds pathetic and all "woe is me" but I really don't mind, I experience a lot less unnecessary stress but if my fortunes improved and my international friends were going to be visiting for any special celebrations, I would be ecstatic to create a world class spread of delicious fare. Dreadlocks are appropriate on genuine Rastafarians, mun, "waguan?" but it's ridiculous seeing white folk with them. They must be very hard to clean with all that wax and goodness knows what else through them and up close they smell like the bowels of hell. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Thanksgiving is about getting as much of the clan together at one meal as possible and being happy for it. What is more human and celebratory than breaking bread together and exchanging bullshit, gossip and outright lies? Thanksgiving is the best of holidays, but I can't think of a worst. I don't have much of an opinion about dreadlocks one way or the other as long as they aren't on my wife or me. Like tattoos or pierced genitalia, they're perfectly fine on someone else. What does Thanksgiving mean to you? It is a time to be with friends and family to be thankful for what you have...being grateful for your life and the people in your life. What’s your most favourite and least favourite holiday period? My favorite holiday (I have two, LOL!) is Thanksgiving and our 4th of July (Independence Day)- both of these holidays are family centered and lots of fun!! Do you like dreadlocks? I do not like dreadlocks....it looks matted and unclean to me (my personal opinion and I don't mean to denigrate anyone). “Life is available only in the present moment.” Thich Nhat Hanh Come and read my blog! Dear B, if the rest of your family are like you, I'd love them too... I would love to be able to come to the US for my birthday next year and linger for Thanksgiving.

What does Thanksgiving mean to you? Lots of food, family and the beginning of Christmas. What’s your most favourite and least favourite holiday period? Christmas! I am like you, New Years is my least favorite. I never go out and I am usually asleep by 9:30. Do you like dreadlocks? Not for me personally...to each their own.

That's quite a holiday period Americans enjoy from Thanksgiving to the New Year. We just have to settle from Christmas Day to the New Year.

I hope you had a great family Thanksgiving. I don't think I could stand spending much time with my family. I haven't spoken to my brother for years and he's the only close family member I have!

Thanksgiving doesn't mean a lot to me. A day off to remember that we probably all have things to be thankful for but otherwise forget sounds good but late November? Eek. Far too close to Christmas. English people tend to dump everything into the Christmas to New Year period which can make it a bit too busy for my taste - But it's still my favourite. I've never known anyone with dreadlocks so have no strong opinions on them.
