YOUR FAVOURITE TREE?

YOUR FAVOURITE TREE?

In a recent poll organised by the UK’s Woodland Trust, the Major Oak was voted as England’s favourite tree. The Major Oak will now represent England in next year’s European Tree of the Year contest to be held next year. It’s the trees’ Eurovision song contest!

The Major Oak is an old oak tree, 800 to 1,000 years old, in Nottinghamshire’s Sherwood Forest. According to legend, the oak tree was where Robin Hood and his merry men took shelter. Since the Victorian period, the tree’s branches have been supported by scaffolding. I’ve never bothered to visit this tree; it looks a bit boring.

My favourite tree is the upside-down tree, known as Baobab tree - see above, found in parts of Africa and Australia. What a tree!

Like most people, I love trees. I love walking in woods and forests just to see the trees. There’s something about trees. There’s no such thing as a bad tree.

My favourite native tree is the Copper Beech - see below. In Britain the Elm tree has been wiped out by Dutch elm disease and the Ash tree is being wiped out by the dieback disease.

Do you like trees?
What’s your favourite tree?

I have 3 blue spruce trees in my yard...used to have 5. My favorite tree is any thing big enough to give me shade!
I do like the maple tree for its maple "leaf" and the maple "syrup"!

I like the oak for its symbolism and strength but my favourite is a Japanese acer.

I like a wide variety of trees. I think the most impressive tree I saw was a California redwood in Redwoods National Park. That tree was as big in diameter as my house! I also enjoy the strength of the oak tree, cedar and pine trees and the scent they give off, maple trees because of the amount of shade they provide along with maple syrup in the spring, and walnut and chestnut trees because of the nuts they provide. When I was a kid, I enjoyed climbing the apple, pear and cherry trees we had in our back yard and harvesting the fruit from them.

Eeh, I do enjoy a good tree McPunkster, great post!

1. Love 'em!
2. Many favourites, Scot's pine, douglas fir, Maple, Silver Birch, love a good Oak, don't forget the humble sycamore (a weed to some), the willow in all it's varieties, the Fig, and probably my favourite all time is the Baobab. (Wish I could post pic's in comments sometimes.)

Trees deserve far more respect than we give them (though I'm no Swampy you understand!)

What a great post! There aren't a lot of trees I don't like. I do love beech, and copper beech is maybe the prettiest. But I guess if I had to choose it might be white pine. This is a seedling I saw in the woods the other day- my dog was going to eat it but I rescued it.

    Yes!
    What’s your favourite tree?
    Colorado Blue Spruce!
I've not yet seen a Coplorado Blue Spruce but it sounds a beautiful tree.

I know this post is about trees, but you have made me think of Father Ted and the episode--
"A Song For Europe", Ted and Dougal write a song called, "My Lovely Horse". Maybe we could write one about trees.

    My lovely lovely lovely [tree].
My lovely [tree] (my lovely [tree]), [Standing in] the field ([Standing in] the field).
Where are you going, With your [branches] blowing In the wind?

Do you like trees? Who doesn't like trees?
What’s your favourite tree? Black Walnut or Chestnuts, I love roasted Chestnuts. There is an ongoing effort to restore American Chestnut trees, decimated by blight in the early 1900s.
I love eating freshly roasted chestnuts; I haven't eaten any for ages though.

I do love trees, especially as they provide shade and somewhere for my male company to lean against to receive an impromptu bushwalk blowjob against.
My two major favourites are the "Weeping" Willow, there's something deeply romantic about them and the Jacaranda (see pic).
The Jacaranda tree is gorgeous.
Is that your view outside your window?

Spruce trees look so majestic. Being Canadian, I can see why you're fond of the maple tree.

Oak trees are always very interesting to look at and touch. I've not come across the Japanese acer tree.

I've been to see the Major Oak. It is boring!

I like all sorts of trees and have many individual favourites. Mostly they are favourites because of where they are located more than species. In terms of species, I possibly like sycamores best but a large horse chestnut in full flower is very hard to beat!
I've not come across anyone yet who says the Major Oak is worth a visit.

I've not yet seen a Redwood tree but they look very impressive on television documentaries.

A sycamore is a fine tree. I like watching its seeds fall off the tree.

One of the best forests I've walked in was the Black Forest in Germany. The walk turned into a mass snowball fight.
