CLEAVAGE STUDIES  At university I went to a lecture entitled ‘Class Cleavages and Cross-Cutting Class Cleavages’! The lecture was given by a Marxist professor who wanted to argue, as Karl Marx did, that politics is all about class politics. The professor’s argument was that the working class have not risen up in revolt partly because of the cross-cutting cleavages. He argued that cleavages, such as gender, ethnicity and nationality, have significantly shaped our identities. Such cross-cutting class cleavages mean that a working class man will identify more with rich men than working class women, a British working class person will identify more with rich British people than working class people in other countries, and a Muslim person will identify more with Muslims than working class people. These cleavages undermine a sense of class consciousness necessary for revolution. Cleavages are dangerous! Earlier this year, in celebration of National Cleavage Day, the actress Kelly Brook won the ‘best celebrity cleavage’ award. Her cleavage received 35 per cent of the votes cast by British women. The actress Michelle Keegan and the singer Katy Perry came second and third respectively. Incredibly, Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks was bottom of the poll with 3 per cent of the votes cast. Are British women mad?! The survey, conducted by Ann Summers, found that 69 per cent of British women are happy with their breasts. Also, the survey revealed that 25 per cent of women have nicknames for their breasts. ‘Pinky and Perky’, ‘The Twins’, ‘Owl and Pussy Cat’, 'Smidge and Smudge’ and ‘Puppies’ were voted the most common pet names for breasts. The survey also found that the many women have used their cleavage to impress a man, get a free drink in a bar, secure a job promotion and get a parking ticket written off. Pet names for breasts... Not really but I do informally refer to mine as "the girls". No, that sort of behaviour doesn't appeal to me at all... A guy can't whip out his cock and get the same benefits. I just like to share mine with my "friends", either intimate friends or those who can view my profile and blog.
