THE PINK PANTHERS   As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, here’s a bit of pink. The Pink Panther is a series of films featuring Inspector Clousseau, an incompetent French police detective initially played by Peter Sellers who I never found funny. The films often made references to the Pink Panther, a pink diamond. The theme music was the Henry Mancini’s classic The Pink Panther Theme - I hope you’re playing it in your heads now. The opening title sequence of the first 1963 The Pink Panther film was so popular that the film company created the cartoon character, The Pink Panther. He was one cool cat, but not quite as cool as Top Cat! Named by Interpol after the films, The Pink Panthers were also a large international network of jewel thieves, based in Serbia. They were responsible for many of the largest heists around the world. The last Pink Panther I’ve come across is the name of my pretend friend’s cock - see above for Inspector Clousseau’s inspection of his cock! Pink is a great colour; I love wearing pink especially with blue. Not many sports teams play in pink. A notable exception is the Stade Français rugby union club, based in Paris, who often play in pink - see below. I'm radically indifferent to the Pink Panther movies and cartoons and never found Peter Sellers funny either... I do sometimes wear pink... It's beginning to make an increased appearance in my wardrobe and my still fairly new runners have significant pink detail, including the laces. Not a pet name... In the National Rugby League in australia, we have the Penrith Panthers who in recent years have taken to wearing pink... They used to be brown and white from the 1960s until the late 1980s, then they went mostly black with some white and red, green and yellow pinstripes and it's only the last 8 years or so that they've gone pink.
