THE DECLINE OF BRITISH PORN

THE DECLINE OF BRITISH PORN

The annual European porn industry summit, known as XBIZ EU, was recently held in London. Affairlook was one of the conference’s platinum sponsors.

A theme running throughout the conference was the decline of the porn industry. Jerry Barnett, a porn industry lobbyist and founder of Sex & Censorship, believed the UK porn business “has shrunk by over 90%” in the past seven years.

The porn industry is starting to face the same problems that the music and book publishing industries are facing - the Internet.

In the early days of the Internet, the porn industry made a killing. Paul Matthews, who runs a porn online business, said: “In the early days it was like the wild wild west; you could put anything up online and make a way to monetise it.”

Now with the launch if porn equivalents of YouTube, such as YouPorn, Pornhub and RedTube, people can easily access free porn. People are less willing to pay for porn. One director of a pay-per-view adult television channel said, “The industry is imploding. If there was less free porn around, my business would be stronger.”

In Britain, the porn industry is also facing greater regulation. UK-based porn businesses now have to comply with new regulations requiring them to verify the age of anyone accessing their online content.

It’s estimated that this regulation will cost £1-50 per website visit, which companies will find difficult to recoup from their website visitors as people wanting to access porn can just go to other porn websites based outside Britain.

These regulations may push the British porn industry to other countries where there are no such regulations.

Have you ever paid to access online porn?
When, if ever, was the last time you bought a porn magazine?
Do you think this site is becoming more like a porn website?

I purchased my last porn magazine about thirty years ago. I’ve never paid for online porn unless this site counts as a porn website!

Pay for porn I don't think so. Buying a mag, man it must have been many, many years ago. I don't see this site as becoming anything near porn-like. I just hope Jan Burton keeps chugging along, she's my favorite British star, hell she's my favorite period!

1. Nope.
2. Probably about 25 years ago, for a laugh (honest!! ), we were off for a boys fishing weekend and someone asked for a newspaper while I was at the shop, so I brought him out a copy of Escort ( ) with his Observer!
3. Most porn sites that I'm aware of don't have ridiculous glitches though they do have annoying pop-ups.

The proliferation of free porn is astonishing, well I think so anyway, but with the sexualisation of our you ngsters I suppose not........

I used to like reading readers' letters in porn magazines, though I've never written such a letter.

I always enjoy the covers of Vogue, but I generally don't read any fashion literature (not even in the weekend newspaper supplements).

    No...

Never bought a porn magazine but did buy porn VHS videos.

Yes, there's an increasing proliferation of animated sex act gifs and similar that qualifies as porn to me.
I had a time when I bought quite a few porn videos/DVDs but I've thrown them all away now.

A lot of newsagents here no longer sell porn magazines and, if they do, they're often sold in wrappers.

.......the porn industry is going to have to cum up with a different product in order to survive the free porn on line......

That's exactly how I felt when I bought my first Playboy magazine. It was a rite of passage.
